When I ordered mine right before the lockdown in NY, my deal was $500 above invoice price. For Army Green Pro, Auto, bed mat, mudflaps, running boards, it came to $46,319. I bet if I ordered today it would be a few grand less. I was told they never expected to find one to trade from another dealer. The plan was to wait 5 months for them to build mine at the plant. With the plant closed, I expect total time to be at least 6 months. Maybe more. But, like you, I'm in no rush. I can't even generate income until NY is out of lockdown.

The same Neanderthals who think if they drag their feet or refuse to give back the keys to your potential trade-in in an attempt to keep you in the dealership, that you’ll be more inclined to buy from them.
No disrespect to any car dealers or salesmen among us. Many are great, but some of the most moronic, ill-informed or offensive people I’ve met have been at a dealer.

    Hello,

    This is my first post.
I've been following the thread for a while now.
There is a lot of good info on here.
    Thanks to everyone for sharing.

This is the deal I was offered, let me know what you guys think.

2020 TRD off road DCSB, adv tech, LED, 4x4, steps, black out, bed cover.
    MSRP: 44,306
Discount- -5,157.00 (last months Costco deal)
Add disc. - 1,500.00 (Toyota rebate)
    Doc fee. 85.00
    State tax. 2979.07 (SoCal)
    License. 734.75
    Theft patrol
    Perma, clear. 1875.00 (wtf)

    Total. 43,304.47

They ended up dropping the price to: 42,579 OTD
I offered 41,500 OTD thru email, and I was rejected.

    Thanks for the input.

That's a scam is what that is. They're trying to claw back a bunch of that original offer. Don't do business with a company like this.

    Hey guys,

First post, been looking to buy a Tacoma Off Road for the last few months and decided now might be the right time. My wants are Premium package, LEDs, and tech. Inventory is pretty limited where I am (Houston, Texas) but I've been shopping around. Got offer today:

TRD Off road 4x4, Premium, Advanced Tech, LEDs Blackout, Side steps, power tailgate lock, protection package,
MSRP: $48,190 ($45,190 before dealer add-ons and options)
    Discount:$5,750
    Rebate:$1,500
    Total before TTL: $40,960

I've never seen an Off road with $3,000 worth of options and dealer add-ons. I know the tint, scratch protection, and paint protection are overly priced and BS. Should I keep looking for trucks without all the extras to lower the price a bit, or with the factories shut down should I keep working on this deal? Thanks all!

    (Sorry for the bad picture)

Shoot for $6XXX in dealer discounts and you’re good to sign that paperwork.

I just bought a 2020 SR5 4x4 V6 double cab with black alloys a month ago in Portland Oregon for 34,500k. Turned out a bit more as I opted for the ceramic coating and the electrical warranty. I’m a decent novice mechanic but all the computers in the rig aren’t my strong suit. Was listed at 37,500ish. Love the truck, was a bit steep in my opinion but I had been in the market for around 5 months and that was the best deal for what I was looking for. Is the price of tea in China I guess.

I've heard conflicting things. Some say they aren't getting nearly as many sales, so they will discount heavily. Others say that since the factory isn't running right now, they are trying to keep them on the lot in preparation for a few months of no new stock coming in until the factories reopen and they start producing again. So they aren't in a rush to sell (at a discount anyway) so that they'll continue to have inventory of some kind for the near future.

I haven't heard of any business ever wanting to "save" inventory. They need cash flow. Imagine trying to run a business with no dollars coming in.

I'm in the same boat, what I did was take their proposed sale price after all discounts/rebates and then add the dealer add-ons (scratch protection, paint protection, etc.)
Then I calculate the percent off of MSRP.

Based on previous posts, it seems like 13% off msrp is a good deal and 15% off is an excellent deal.

I was thinking to negotiate with the dealer to remove or reduce the dealer add-ons till I reach 14% to 15% off msrp before ttl.

Anyone else have experience with this?

If you know you won't have any new inventory coming for a couple months, would you rather sell all your current stock for only a tiny bit of profit (or none) and then have nothing to sell until you can finally get a restock way down the line, or maintain a decent profit-margin as well as keep stuff around to sell during that period to continue to have cash flow and profits? Probably depends how liquid a dealer/business is and how much cash flow or credit they have available determines whether they can weather a slow down in sales vs. just need some kind of money flowing in to keep the lights on.

I can see it from both sides, and the answer is probably It Depends.

As a person who has run many businesses, I would always sell today for what I can get because tomorrow is never guaranteed. Always.

I got a rebuttal today saying she would give it to me for 43,500 OTD ($40,440 before ttl) which would be about 12.8% off MSRP, with all the add-ons, before the rebate. Of course she needs to appraise my trade in which should be right around equal equity. But if I go in there and can leave at 43,500 OTD with my trade in I think I might do it. I might try to get her to take off some add-ons to lower the price a bit but I'm just trying to make sure I don't pay more than I need to, it's a process...
