Completed the 70mm TB and new 4R/FJ tube changes yesterday. Just a few more pics of the previously discussed inlet grinding. I left about .5mm of the lip for the gasket all the way around. Then blended inwards. Got it to 72mm. Like I was getting at before; You'd have to cut well into the gasket area to get to 76mm. I suppose that you could weld up the notch at the top and then run a flat gasket tho.

    Adapter bolted in place.

    Done.

    That's what I was asking!

I bought the 70mm TB from @JustDSM . After that, I thought that I should've gone with the 76mm. I tried to sell this one off. No takers. So, when @12TRDTacoma brought up the 4R/FJ tube thing and I was already running the Tacoma version of that intake. It worked out perfectly.

Now that I've done the grinding and had a good look in there, I'm glad I stayed with the 70mm.

Whats the benefit of a larger throttle body? Is airflow an issue?

I'm curious in the FI setups why making a larger throttle body makes a difference. If the flow is still restricted to the internals of the TRD/ Magnuson SC itself. Same with the stock plastic for "other" FI applications.

You want to make it as easy as possible to ingest as much air as possible. Guys With the smaller pulleys are maxing out the stock MAF capabilities as well. Opening things up has benefits all around.

Good to know. Where do you draw the line between needing a ported or larger throttle body or not?

I've seen this be an issue on a friends twin charged V, but it was feeding 17lbs into the blower from a rear mount turbo.

I wouldn't say that there's a line. Will the truck run on the stock intake and 65mm TB? Of course. Will it make more power with a larger intake and the proper re-calibration? Of course.

I've always 50/50 about the whole throttle body larger opening thing. I currently don't see a reason to do it, but I also don't have an apples to apples comparison of someone who has done it to theirs who has the same mods I do who lives close to me.

Gotcha. Ive heard of people running tundra tb's. Are they plug and play? Anyone on here shown improvements with a stock airbox and snorkel that youve hear of? I only ask because i want a race truck and a mud truck

I'm betting that that blower is having a hell of a time trying to pull 400hp through an intake system designed for 245 hp.

Nice I see you made an adapter for that MAF. Planning ok doing that as well. Just waiting on the connections to arrive.

I wonder what type of adapter could be made to adapt the TRD FJ intake tube to the Tacoma Afe Power Magnum Force intake? Anyone looking into that? Would be nice to keep the air box with cone filter and just swap intake tube/ MAF and a 70mm TB. Could be simple as long as the adapter to the box is smooth and open enough.
