It looks like from the pic it does open a little more than stock. Which I'm fine with a little bit more than stock. I don't need the hood to be almost vertical for my needs, but I can see why that would be a plus to others.

Who cares what they say. You made a sound investment and didn't have to drill into your body. It's not like you're running a durability test to see how it holds on the freeway. If it doesn't stand the hold, simply buy another one with the same length at the autoparts store. Probably 40 bucks, but you got the brackets.

And what's the difference between him enjoying not having to spend extra money on more supplies and putting in extra work for something that cost the same? You get the same results.

He can "enjoy" whatever method he wants. But trying to say that drilling a hole in the hood is any different than Toyota drilling one is nonsense. I'm just offering perspective to other readers, not necessarily who I quoted.

I’ve installed Redlines on both of my Tacoma trucks and also on a Subaru and a Honda. Always been satisfied.

I ended up going with the Sokie techs. Main reasons why:
Less expensive: - $59 on ebay
    - I liked the angle. It appeared that when working on the back of the engine I would have better access. Spiker was my next choice though as I liked where it attached to the body, closer to the firewall.
    - not having to drill anything. Not that I'm opposed as I have already don't a bunch of cutting and drilling. But it's nice to know I don't have to add to it.
    - the other makers designs would have interfered with my relays and the caliraised mount for them.
    - knowing these guys have been around for awhile with other cars and aren't necessarily reinventing the wheel.

All and all I'm very happy with my decision. Install was easy. The hood is very easy to open now. I'm surprised I had not done this sooner.

Sokie. Length past the prop rod. I do not like the mounts because the passenger side strut grazes the water/splash/weather shield and I do not like the use of the ground point on the driver side. Other than that, seems fine. It will fail. All struts fail. Just wanted to post an honest "in the wild" picture of how much past the prop rod the strut holds the hood.

Just installed my Spiker struts today. I definitely overworried the install. It was pretty easy. The only trouble I had was the left side lower, I could not get my 13" Astro rivet tool in there. But I could on the right side, odd that. That tool makes riveting fun. Anyway I had to use the Marson hand tool for the left lower and I could not generate enough hand power, so my son in law got it (SOB is strong). The drilling was very easy and everything lined up. I didn't paint, coated generously with Amsoil HD Metal protector after drilling (inside and out), during assembling and after completion. They work very slick. Honestly I didn't know about the no drill units before. Not sure which I would have chose if I did, but I am happy with Spiker and do recommend.

Just ordered the the Spikers. Now I just need to find a rivet gun to borrow from somebody:cool: I’ve never needed one so I don’t know why I would need one in the future:notsure:
Out of curiosity. Why would one get the redlines over the spikers that rise higher? I’ve heard from people that have had both, that the spikers are better. I’m sure they are both great:thumbsup:

Is that what it comes down to, who can lift it higher? I've heard Redlines are higher quality... I went with Redline because they're the originals, they've been doing it longer and have more experience.

I'm short. I don't want my hood to lift any higher. Might not be able to reach it, to close it. :pout:

At a skyward 5'8" I was worried...........I may be tall, but I'm fat to make up for it.........wait what.........I was worried, but I added a 5.5" above the prop rod and still reach with no issues. After my 8" lift could be a problem :D:p:eek::taco:

So then why did you buy Kings instead of Fox?

I would have gone redline too. Then again, I’m a fox guy. So.
