I wouldnt think the 4.0 had enough guts to move a 2nd gen Tundra very well...

yes, you are correct, the 3.4 V6 reg cab stopped with the 1997 model year for some unknown reason to me, it was also the first year a supercharger would hook right up with no extra mods whatever, like the TW famed '97 reg cab V6 supercharged with over 600k miles owned since new by @1997tacomav6 in Denver.
1997 was also the very last year that you could get an SR5 top line brand that actually 'meant' something before it changed to limited designation.

right here are two of the oldest single owner Tacomas on TW, I think we are currently #3 and #4 after I recently learned he got his just 5 short days earlier than when I got mine May'97 in Bellevue NE and proud to represent the mid west region, no transplant

his truck is way quicker than mine is :burnrubber:

my truck is so dirty from the long drive across NE to CO, probably shoulda washed it up first, ya?

#1 and #2 are quite a distance away in SC and CA tahoe area

I just thought it would be cool to build one for King of the hammers stock class someday. In the regulations it almost sounds like I can still swap in the V6 since it was technically "available in the same make/model and year." (that's their verbiage)

just a couple of things tbh
would be neat but i dont remember seeing one with the 4.0

would be cooler to have a super charged 4.0 in a standard cab that would be quick

Possibly, but you never really know until ya take it apart.

It might be several paper weights.
