Possibly frame, no airbag deployment. The guy *says* he checked for a bent frame and found none, but who knows. I appreciate all this input.

Would you be paying cash? Like I said, most banks will not issue loans on rebuilt/salvage vehicles...

If you have $23K in cash, you should buy a decent 2nd Gen, or even a low-mileage 1st Gen!

Look at the engine fan in those pics, no fan blades left so im sure they tore the original radiator and condenser to pieces.

This looks like something your ex’s kid would buy; Would be a major improvement over the Dakota though!

USAA will (with caveats) finance salvage, just talked with them on the phone today. Not set on a 3rd gen, but this crossed my path and with only 28k original miles, so thought I'd look into it.

I have USAA for my insurance! But do not finance a salvage vehicle; If something breaks I’m pretty sure the warranty is voided...

That is pretty high miles for a 1 year old truck too.

My cousin bought a used 2013 Honda CRV in September 2014; It either had 38K or 41K miles on it; She financed it and had it for three years...

About 130K miles on it when she traded it for a new RAV4 in 2017; The dealer sent the Honda to auction instead of putting it on the lot. She paid off the CR-V in full and for 0% financing on the RAV4!

And my cousin’s 2017 RAV4 that she hasn’t even owned for three years already has over 70K miles on it! She drives a lot for work...

I can't understand why he didn't change the core support and paint. He'd get his price.

Maybe paid too much to begin with. It may have looked like an easy fix at 19K. Auctions are cut throat now....too many people doing it. Houston used to have some great deals (how I got mine) but now, nope. They pay way more than I will.

With a front-end collision, would you be concerned that more than just the core supports were damaged?

Oh yeah. It would have to go on a frame machine before looking further.

It didn't get totaled w/o frame damage. How bad???????:notsure:

With the evident shoddy repair work, I would definitely stay away...
If it was a quality repair and reliability was maintained, I would consider.... On this - You can see the bad repair from quite a distance... The color scheme isnot bad actually - but the fit & finish are horrible!
Certainly not the product of a reputable shop. They would not let that out on the street.

Go for a brand new TRD Pro, and if you are absolutely bent on making bad financial decisions, lease it. Compared to the salvage, you drive a brand new truck with no prior issues and a two year warranty, then you can turn it in after the term or keep it if you like it.

You can get a brand new tacoma for that price... A big no from me. Why not get a 2nd gen or used 3rd gen?

Salvaged titles are great to buy....in Cash, in high school or college, and when you are spending a couple grand while you are getting an education or even saving up to buy something more fun down the road.

my buddy did it while he was paying off his debt and going to college. He went through three and was out a total of less than 10k over 12 years. When the last one crapped out he bought a brand new Volvo SUV IN CASH.

If you want to buy a salvaged car, keep it at a 3k-5k MAX!!
