Get a Tundra if you need a larger truck.

Pretty much this. I still use the F250 for heavy hauling but love driving the Tacomas. I go weeks away from the f250 sometimes and don't miss it much.

It is. Only on TW is 40 more HP be looked at sideways. If the second gen had 40 more HP, we'd never hear the end of it.

I came from 20 years in a 1999 F350 Crew long bed with a V-10 engine. At the time, we were towing horses to shows every week or so and I was into barn repair work. Plenty of towing power (sucky mileage tho) and rear storage for all my tools. The wife stopped riding and I retired and my driving reduced considerably. Got the Tacoma last May and it suits my purposes well enough. (A pain to run many small errands in the Ford)

Anyone that tows or hauls heavy has regretted it. In other words, a full size truck is in a completely different league than a Tacoma. If you need an actual truck to do actual truck work get a full size. If not, (and most people are in this category) get the Taco. But, don't complain about the crappy mileage, funky transmission and weak power.

One more thing: Those that regretted it aren't on this forum any longer. They sold their Taco and went back to a full size, which is going to horribly skew any data you get on TW. I'm thinking confirmation bias is at work here ;-)

I'm not gonna lie....I saw a Calvary Blue Tundra Limited CrewMax the other day at the dealer....it got me thinking...

I feel like my 2nd Gen Taco is too big, keep thinking I would be happier in a 1st Gen.

Not for a second. Especially when I try to park it. Tows damn near as much as my 2006 silverado, has damn near as much power, is more comfortable, quieter and has a transmission that won't blow up like that piece of shit 4l60e. Taco is a manual, the last new, small truck [corrected below] you can buy with one and it has a real first gear and a legit axle ratio- 4.30. Suck it, GM.

Late edit: The Gladiator is a Jeep body on a Ram frame but y'all got me on that one, see 2 posts below; and I legitimately forgot the Frontier existed as a new truck. Not shading Nissan directly, I wanted one in high school... when they came out. I'm 35 now, everything on the truck is from 2003 and it feels like it. Want to have a laugh? go build one online and look at the price. You think the tacos are overpriced... sheesh...

You can also get a Gladiator in a MT, but I doubt it would be very reliable.

Honestly, I doubt reliability is much different from what everyone on here whines about. Real world, they're probably fine and don't forget the JT is mostly a Ram frame including wider D44s versus the JLs. Anyway, a similarly equipped gladiator was 13 grand more than the the tacoma, per MSRP. Then they stopped selling and discounts came screaming out. I was annoyed for a second, but then I recalled that they are halfway between the length of the silverado I sold and the Tacoma I bought. Plus I've built a jeep already, I wanted something else. If I bought a JT I would just build the hell out of it anyway and... no. I have the holy grail of both subarus and fords to blow money on. I love my tacoma and wouldn't trade it for anything else. (Unless I turned a profit, let's be real here.)

I miss my 2014 Tundra everyday. 2019 Tacoma Limited is nice but the Tundra was better in every way. Sold the Tundra when I moved to Portland and the streets were too narrow. Lol

Better fuel economy? Full size V8’s are getting 20 mpg?

Diesel, but yes. Tacoma averaged 14mpg combined, mostly in town, with a high of around 20mpg on the highway. Ram is at 16mpg combined and the best I’ve seen on the highway is 25mpg.

Only thing I miss about my Silverado is the deep rumble of the V8. Sounded like a big motorboat idling in the driveway. Soothing. Blub blub blub...

Do yourself a favor and test drive all of the different models of Tacoma. That alone may tell you if you want to switch as ride is different compared to full size.

For me, I traded a 2019 Ram Crew Cab for my 2020 Toyota Double Cab. Mostly because that truck had serious issues but when I put some thought into it, after close to 20 years, it was time to come back to a mid-sized Tacoma as my large truck needs faded and I now won’t look back. You could hand me the keys to a 2020 Full Size whatever in a straight up trade for my Tacoma and I’d have to say no thanks. Tacoma’s are just too easy to drive and maneuver, anywhere. And then you have to be very realistic, how many days a year do you actually require a full size vehicle? Most people, a few days a year, you can get creative on those days. For the other 362 days of the year, enjoy.

This is a great question. I went back to Toyota, came pretty much full circle. My first car was a 78 Toyota truck. I, have also owned a 1968 Landcruiser. I miss the power, and plush ride of my Ram limited, but I love the smaller easier to drive, hopefully more reliable Toyota, The Ram screwed me.

I wish, I could have a combo of both, I also owned a Lexus GX470, so, a 4x4 , V8 powered, plush/capable truck, would be ideal. Lexus should make a truck. It would be the perfect combo for me currently.

Traded a 2019 Ram? How well did u do with trade in value? I was considering a new Ram 1500 bighorn along with a tacoma last year. Would have been close to the same price. I ended up with another tacoma.

Not a V8 but my 3.5 ecoboost F150 (15) and my current Taco are pretty much a wash for me. Taco does slightly better in town (less than an MPG) and F150 did better on the highway (1-2 MPG). This is same driver on same route so a pretty fair comparison... what wasn't a comparison was the power difference.

I've gotten used to the power in my Taco but still think the Taco with a 2.7 ecoboost would be a killer truck.
