I need some help !!! Took my 2015 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner SR5 V6 in to the local Toyota dealer to get the brakes replaced.

FIRST TIME IN they replaced the pads (OEM). Within a few days the brakes started this horrendous squealing like a banshee while backing out of the driveway (and then going forward) first thing in the morning after sitting overnight. Took it back in.

SECOND TIME IN they replaced the rotors (OEM) and scuffed up the brake pads. Again, within a few days, same horrendous squealing noise first thing in the morning backward and forward. Took it back in.

THIRD TIME IN they replace the pads (OEM), thinking it might be bad pads...Again within a few days; same noise backward and forward.

The squealing goes away after hitting the brakes within a 1/4 of a mile, but will start squealing after the truck sits for about 4 hours (at work – leave for lunchtime, then leave for home 4 hours later).

Two neighbors have stopped by asking me to please do something about the noise, as it is waking them up in the morning!

Can ANYONE give me a clue what the heck is going on?!?! I love the truck, but I HAVE to solve this problem!
    Thanks in advance!

    Previous Toyotas = 87 Pickup, 96 Camry, 97 Pickup, 2008 Tacoma 4X4, 2009 Tacoma Prerunner SR5.

I think it's a crooked dealer that's not using factory parts but that's just a guess on my part.

Toyota puts anti-squeek shims between the pad and the caliper, perhaps yours are missing, if they're missing a Toyota dealer should be able to figure that out quickly.

OEM Pads should not be giving you this much trouble if done properly. Sounds like they didn't reinstall the shims.

Thanks! One of the first things I thought of. I asked them about the shims and they assured me they were on.

For most Toyota brake pads, there is both a Shim Kit and a Fit Kit. The shims fit over the back side of the pads a prevent / absorb high frequency vibrations which care the root cause of most squealing. The Fit Kit includes the stainless steel springs that hold the pad ears in the caliper brackets and allow them to float. There is also a special white lubricant that Toyota recommends applying to the pad ears before they go into the caliper bracket. If all of that stuff is present, accounted for and installed properly, there should be no squealing. That said, it's up to the dealer to fix this one.

The only other way I've seen a squeal in the front brakes - and this only happened to me once in over 40 years - is where a small stone got caught between the rotor and the dust shield.

In California after the initial repair automotive shops get 3 attempts to correct an issue and if it hasn't been corrected by the third attempt they're supposed to give you all of your money back.

Time for a 2nd opinion. Don’t be afraid to ask for your $$ back due to the lack of mechanical expertise.

Lol let’s hear the Greek Tragedy. Got a video? At first I thought rock in the rotor but it’s def something they did wrong.

Have you tried bedding your brakes? Accelerate to about 40 to 50mph then come to a firm stop. Dont slam your brakes to lock your tires but you should hard stop. Do that about 4 to 5 times in quick succession(safely). This helps to remove the shipping wax(?) that coats the brake pads and helps mate the pad to the surface of the rotor. Also, they should have cleaned your brake disks with a few squirts of brakleen or equivalent in the event that they weren't using gloves or got a bit carried away with the application of greases. Also, if you took the tire off, you should be able to put eyes on the anti-squeak pads to see if they were installed. They will be very thin, about as thick as 5 sheets of paper. Look between the pads and the pistons.

Have you confirmed 100% that it’s coming from the front? Stick your head out the window, look down at the ground and take note of which ear you hear the squeal in.

Excessive brake dust in the rear drum brakes will cause a squeal.
