Has anyone installed a in dash Pioneer Navigation Unit lately?

I keep hearing nothing but bad things about the new Pioneer line. I was considering the new AvicF900 but hear that it; takes forever to load, has glitches and boots up weird. I had the Avic N1 when it first came out and my favorite feature was the digital speedo with misc guages, and I read that they did away with it on the F series. My other option is the Kenwood DNX8120, has anyone installed this unit in their truck yet? If so, how is the sound quality off a stock single disc system?

 

i had it on my truck for about 48 hrs and absolutely hated it, i was halfway to my destination before the thing was ready to be fully used. really pathetic.

i just ordered the alpine iva w505 and the blackbird combo which i hear is light-years ahead

 

Everything i just read about the pioneer decks was bad...Which sucks- cause I like how they looked.

 

For a little more $$$ get yourself a Kenwood 812 or 8120 (with or without NAV).

I have a 8120 and I cannot recommend it enough.

 

I highly reccomend the Alpine units if you plan on connecting your ipod. The interface is unmatched by most other head units.

I like the 9886, but I think you want a nav unit . . .

Just my .02. I have owned MANY head units and I like the dollar value ratio of the alpine units. Not saying they are the best, but great bang for the buck.

 

new update last week and boot up time is about 30 sec. and other improvments. i love mines! $525 for my f90bt. NEW! can't beat that.

 

I've had my 900bt installed for about 2 days now. The 2.0 update did wonders for the stability and boot up times. For the number of features it has I'm loving the 900bt so far!

 

I recommend the Pioneer Avic Z series units. I like them because they are Hard Drive based and can be upgraded easily. I bought an Avic Z1 off ebay for $550 and upgraded the software on the Hard Drive to the Z3 software. Basically I paid $550 for an $1800 unit.

Works very well, I have no complaints.

 

I have been waiting for them to work the bugs out before buying the 90BT. They have made several improvements since the first version. www.avic411.com is an excellent site for Pioneer decks - those who havent been there.
