Do consider it. They are worth it.

You could easily swap your current torsion axle for a new one. It is a bolt-on swap. Also, you can get an axle that will give you some lift, by getting one with some down-angle (the static position of the arm).

Here's the one I built a couple years ago. I built the skeleton out of 1x1 square tubing, and skinned it with some sheetmetal we had left over in our shop. Still need to make a new trailer frame for it. I had a 5x10 utility trailer that wasn't being used, so I just shortened it to 5x8, welded on an adjustable length tongue, made some bigger fenders, and used it. Plus it was already registered. Handles fine on and off road, but want something a bit beefier.

So far it's been great for camping. I installed a 100w solar panel to charge the 100ah battery. It runs lighting, fridge, tv/ dvd player no problem. Still need to get a fresh water tank and pump, water heater, and maybe AC. It is fully insulated and doesn't get too warm, but AC would still be nice for the Mrs.

Hopefully we can get it out and do some camping soon.

Subbed. The Mrs. wants to move on from the RTT life and i figured a teardrop is a nice in between.

Finding places that sell them in the SE (South Carolina specifically) is a challenge. Looking forward to learning from you guys!

Love seeing these. Looks like the ideal setup for a Tacoma trip.
Used to do lots of trips using a fiberglass shell on the truck, went some wonderful places but it was never enough or easy to set up camp. Did some trips hauling a larger self contained trailer, and I felt like Lucille Ball & Riki in that old movie, and the driving felt like hard work and we couldn't leave the pavement.

We did a couple of overnighters close to home. One night was up in the mountains, the other night was at a local campground that had reopened. The mountain trip was the first boondocking trip for us with no facilities. It's what I've been working towards with the family. We've started using our awning room more. It gives us some extra space to set up the PETT camping toilet, as well as some additional sheltered protection from the weather. The tent is a CVT Awning Wall set, but it doesn't look like they carry them anymore. I did have to sew on a zipper and make an additional panel to cover the gap on the trailer side between the bottom of the trailer and the bottom of the door. We had a critter get in and chew a hole in the bottom of the toilet bag. That was fun to wake up to. We're still loving it! A bit bummed that our two/three week trip out to Hells Canyon didn't work out during this vacation. Hopefully the world will be saner for my next vacation in September.

I was able to use some of the 'Rona downtime to bedline the nose of the trailer and the fenders. Gravel roads had been taking their toll on the painted fenders and on the front of the trailer. The aluminum didn't look bad, but it was difficult to clean because the little pockmarks that the gravel left behind. It was constantly snagging sponges and rags when cleaning after trips. I had a goof with the bedliner. I think I put it on too thick, which is difficult not to do when you mix it in the bottle. Anything left in the bottle at the end of spraying is trash, which encourages you to go heavy on the coats and not wait as long as you should. I've gone away from mixing the full bottle and now do all the mixing by weight. Much better results that way.



I used RaptorLiner from U-Pol with the Dove Gray color tint. I did have an issue with my order from them. They had left out two bottles of the hardener part. I sent them an email asking about it in the evening. The next morning I woke up to a tracking number for a package with two bottles of hardener.






I've also figured out some ideas for the galley now that I've had a chance to use it some more. Basically, I'm going to make a new chuck box to replace the current one that will allow for a slightly different storage arrangement. I'm also going to make an additional chuck box to go to the right of the current one. It will be sized for plastic bins that I currently keep in the storage cubbies. This will let me have more room for water storage down low, in the cubbies. I also need to get a real tea kettle. I'm using a percolator without the guts as a tea kettle right now, but it's just a smidge smaller than the burner and takes forever to boil since the heat goes right up the sides.

I’ve been dragging my feet on buying a small camper for years and finally pulled the trigger last week. We went with a Boreas MXT because it has all the stuff we want and none of the stuff we don’t. Spent the first three nights in it at the top of Paradise Pass (11k ft) here in CO. Couldn’t be happier so far! The fit and finish of the trailer is excellent and they’re built just up the road in Denver.

We're of the opinion that the only thing our camper needs is a decent sized bed, storage for the kitchen stuff, and that really about it. Im looking for a no frills, utilitarian type setup. I dont need a sink and all that jazz (more power to those who do).

Just getting my feet wet looking around so hope to get some ideas!

If you want simple no frills look in my camper build. Really simple like basically a hard sided tent. Kitchen is a pull out on the rear no sink shower or bathroom. I have added quite a bit extending the tongue and fabbing the box to hold the fridge and storage. We can sit in it and the gull wing door is like a porch roof. May just suit your needs or what @McRib got might

How much do they start at? Im not looking to spend too much over 6-7K if i can help it. Big money for a small offroading camper just doesnt make too much sense.

 

Mines basic basic under 8k... 6x8 king size bed. 15” 31” Patagonia with spare, no sink, no fridge, no pull out kitchen, no frills. A place to sleep off the ground no rain worries.
