Good Year Wrangler MT Tires

Can someone give me reviews for the Good Year Wrangler MT tires, size 265/75/16. Are they noise, how do they run, I'm not a mudder just for the looks.

Which ones? the kevlars or just the original MTR's?

Yeah and if you must have a mud tire just for looks, the MTR is just about the worse choice out there. They wear really fast on the road, even compared to other MT's. You will be happier with an aggressive AT when it comes to long life and road noise.

 

If not a Mudder, then go with the Duratracs.

Its one hell of a AT tire, snow rated, and really does good in the mud, snow, rain.

Plus , it is one good looking tire.

I have the same size in Duratracs... can't be beat!

 

I just put Kevlars on mine this week and they are super quiet and smooth. It's like riding on pillows, except they handle well.

I've got a couple hundred miles on my MTR/Kevlars now. So I'm qualified to have a preliminary opinion.

You'll read that they're quiet. They are - when compared to a jet engine. But they're the loudest tires I've ever owned. Granted I've never owned any other MTs. But they're a fair amount louder than my BFG AT/TAs ever were.

You'll read they've got good grip in the dirty. They do. But you can still get stuck on the hill by picking the wrong line. And guys with A-TRAC and Rear-Diff-Lock with "well used" AT tires made it through a line that stopped me using new MTR/Kevlars with my open differentials.

Stiff. My regular cab (3550 lbs soaking wet) has to carry them at 29lbs of pressure to avoid riding like a brick.

Gas mileage? Hah. Now, this is a mix of size as well as tread. And the biggest single factor is as always how heavily you apply the skinny pedal. But I'm now getting 14 to 15 mpg.

Driving in rain, snow? Jury is still out. But any good AT should do better here than the MT/Rs Kevlars do. Don't be misled by the look. This is *not* a tire to excel on slippery pavement!

Am I complaining? Hell no. Am I happy with them? Of course. Would I buy them again? Oh yeah. Tires are all about tradeoffs. Informed decisions are the best ones. Do your research. Pay your money. Take your chances.

 

As bjmoose described the mt/r are a decent looking tire but it has both its good and bad points. This is my third set of mt/r's, as I've had them on my Jeeps (TJ and XJ) and now the Tacoma, but they are not *my* favorite. If I didn't get them for such a bargin each time I would not have placed them on the steelies. I've had great success over the past 20 years with tread life and on/offroad performance with BFGs. The only other brand I've had is Swampers in the LTB and IROK flavor - they have earned their place on my trail rig but have no place on the road. If your stickin' to the pavement, as others have suggested, look at the AT style tire. They'll be much better on gas, quieter, last longer, and you truely won't be sacrificing much in terms of general performance.

I run the mtr's on our farm truck/puller and love them. But I am going with the duratracs on my tacoma.

 

If you want a cheaper tire, check out the Definity Dakota MTs from Pep Boys. They have a 40K mile warranty. I have 285s on mine. I'm currently about 3K miles shy of 40K on mine. Buy 3 get the 4th for $1. There are pics in my gallery.

 

+1 my buddy has them on his FJ and the hum is very irritating.

I have seen a million posts with you raving about your tires. I'm going to write goodyear and tell them they should give you a free set for all the advertisement you give them .

I still have been so impressed with these tires.
took them down by the creek bed the other day, no problem.
this is my daily driver and still no complaints.
they kicked ass last winter so kind of looking forward to snow.
