Does that make a lot or noise in the cab? Cool idea.

Quite a few factors into answering your question. Yes, there is a noticeable sound difference in the air being pulled on just the other side of the firewall. It was more than manageable while N/A, even decent on supercharger with 2.8 pulley. The stock air box dampens the flow noise quite a bit. When I deleted the air box and reduced to a 2.3” pulley that was when my wife drew the line.

    1. Relative to your level of hearing loss.

    2. Relative to how much air demand you have, N/A vs. Forced Induction

    3. Sound deadening in cab above stock

Hmm this would fix my exposed intake due to glass issue. Any major complaints with it while running n/a?

None. Probably won’t pass smog, but easy swap back.

Not sure if it matters, perhaps @12TRDTacoma would know. However, this is just a tube and does not alter or affect any filters. Should be any different than a snorkel which doesn’t get CARB approval either.

This is similar to a snorkel mod, but unlike the snorkel where the original tube stays in place while extension tubing which runs out to the snorkel goes, this alters the original airbox design and would therefore require CARB approval and an EO # to pass smog.

I personally would heir on the side of caution, however, there are some techs which would pass it simply because they aren't dicks.

It's a judgement call really for smog, but on your end, you can always keep your stock tubing and just replace it back in there and remove the cowl intake when it's time for smog.

I have a smog tomorrow and still debating if I should put the stock intake tube back on.
I have the same cowl snorkel.

I was thinking about this thread as I crossed a major water crossing recently

seems like several folks have this mod, is there greater peace of mind when treading water?

you will get multiple opinions like just about everything on Tacomaworld. However, it puts the intake in a, not so much higher, but less exposed location. You would have to drop the whole front end to submerge this location as opposed to just the passenger side fender. Even water coming over the hood in a small wave wouldn’t enter directly.
