Hunting tactics you dont approve of?

Most ever thing on this thread, I don't have a big problem with hunting over corn or bait (against the law here BTW) since it's no different than hunting a farm crop of any type, or green field. Also I hate running dogs and road hunters with CB radios.

how do you feel about muzzle loaders? its similar to bow hunting in the aspect that you will probably only get one shot but different because you will be able to reach out to about 200

Im curious because I used to rifle hunt a lot but since getting into bow hunting that has become my passion. it is so much more intense and personal

 

i don't like poachers and i don't like people that dog hut for deer.
the problem with dog hunters is they have no control over where the dogs
go. 2 or 3 times each year i get into it with dog hunters because they are to
lazy to walk out a 10 acre cutover that joins some of our land. their dogs get on
our property and run all day long, and everything is over. big deer do not move
when dogs are running, they lay still and do not move, unless they are about to get run over. it just dosen't seem like alot of fun to me to take 10 or 15 guys, surround
a track of woods, set out 30 dogs and shoot what ever comes out.

 

Ive ran dogs once and will NEVER go again, it was horrible

 

The new in-line muzzle loaders are not much different than a heavy brush gun center fire rifle. With using formed / measured loads, and a surefire ignition system via a shotgun primer the consistancy is damn near 100%.

Now I have a flint lock which I've thought about going out during black powder season, and I think that would be a real challenge. I only bow hunt. I've said I will take a rifle out in the extended season if I get skunked during bow season just to put meat in the freezer. Fortunately this has not happend yet, but I'm sure the day is coming.

There is something different about having a deer inside of 30 yards, and having to be extremely quiet and precise. The heart gets to pounding, and the chest tightens....phew what a rush! I shot a rifle for a living for 5 years and I just don't think the rush would be the same shooting a deer at 300 + yards where there is no chance he would even know you are there. Just my thoughts.

 

you aint kiddin about the heart pounding and chest tightening. my first season bow huntin i had to let a doe go because when i drew on her i couldnt even hold the bow on the deer, much less in the vitals. i got teased for the longest time about my "doe fever" from all my buddies. got over that now though but still get quite the rush when you hear the leaves crunching and you know a deer is gonna be within range. not sure what i would do if a hoss ever walked within range lol. probably miss

 

Yeah, that makes me mad too! Sometimes my Dad does this stuff too, I have to remind him to be more safe.

Also try (if you haven't already) planting yourself at the gun range and just watch all of the people shooting. It will amaze you to see all of the unsafe things people do there. Like watching people looking down the barrel of their gun, while it's loaded! lol Holy Cow!

 

it seems like it would be a nightmare trying to catch them. they are pened up for about 10 months, then let loose, i guess they just wear out.
if they did not have those tracking collars, it would be a mess. i have been tried to catch the dogs several times when they ran on our land. i want to take one of the collars off and strap it to a log and throw it in the river. it is not in me to shoot a dog, i just want it to be a giant pain for the people running them across our land.

 

I can not stand people that set there stand near there feeders and trophy hunters. I hunt to feed my family and I use damn near every part of the animal I shoot.

 

Road hunting is a huuuuge problem in Kansas. It's ridiculous.

 

This thread shows a photo of the bucks my father and I harvested last year with a bow. Mine scored net 138 0/8 due to a broken point....woulda been around 150. Talk about heart pounding!

i have a short list. basically, if it is legal, i'n pretty much cool with it.

but i cant see the fun with.
1. road hunters...wtf? some fatass riding around in a truck, glassing the hills. please.
2. guys hunting out of permanent blinds with high powered rifles. unless you are in a wheelchair..get the eff out.
3. guys with the super hyper accurate long range rifles that shoot 400yards and up. the animal dies on the next mountain range. even if they see you, they are not smart enough to know they are in danger.

the rest..whatever. baiting? bears in some areas can only be hunted this way. cover is too thick. same with deer in texas. thick.

me..i am probably the most unsuccessful hunter i know. i love spot stalk bowhunting..and i SUCK! i get invited to black rifle, night hunts at or near wine country for hogs, but i decline. i see if they will take me in the daytime, but the answer is always NO. they want the pigs gone, and spotlight and high capacity magazines are the way to go.

 

I've watched the Versus channel and the so-called "hunts" on those big Texas ranches. It is so pathetic. They take someone to a stand who hasn't even been there before and they shoot a trophy buck in 15 minutes. That isn't hunting.

 

After being in combat, I don't like hunting something that can't shoot back.

 

Baiting is the only issue I have. That just makes things to easy.

 

Being from the west I don't like tree stand hunting, its not fair. Road hunting bothers me too. If you are too lazy to go find the deer, you shouldnt wast you money on a tag. Spot and stock is the way to go. You will see a lot more if you get out and walk.
