Thoughts on BA? Will they be back at the pre-virus level of $380?

Eventually. Their only competition for large body jets, is Eurotrashbus.

I am in the (ex) land of BA. Honestly it will be a long rocky road. Me of all people, I've got no stomach for the lazy B. People makes money on them, I avoid. Even when it dives again, I just can't pull the trigger. Gutless.

I have no clue on ETF's or commodities, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

None of the markets have seen anything like what is going on today and no one can predict what will happen over the next 1-6 months. I'll watch USO and possibly buy at the next dip. I won't hold long and watch it everyday and world event will dictate where all the markets will go. This is my gambling account, not my retirement fund. YMMV

Oil at 18 bucks a barrel?!?! Lowest price in 18 years.....
OPEC+ Russia are doing their best to price shale oil out of market. I think I saw most shale companies are only profitable when oil is $50+ a barrel. Stimulus funds going to shale companies will be a waste as it'll prop the shale oil Co's up for a few months but they will still fail, just months later, because oil price isn't going back up anytime soon. Stimulus that goes to fund crap that will still fail regardless, seems quite ridiculous. But it really doesn't surprise as most things the gubment does are wasteful and ridiculous and and are to line pockets.
Gubment needs some serious training on waste and efficiency, 'The Toyota Way' would be just what the doc ordered :D

    The-Toyota-Way-model-Source-Liker-2004.jpg
The Toyota Way is a set of principles and behaviors that underlie the Toyota Motor Corporation's managerial approach and production system. Toyota first summed up its philosophy, values and manufacturing ideals in 2001, calling it "The Toyota Way 2001". It consists of principles in two key areas: continuous improvement, and respect for people.[1][2][3]

uso might be a longer term payout but they’ll be back.

etfs are basically a managed stock portfolio. That a bunch of people buy into. For example you could buy oil, cruise lines, and reit. Orrrr you could find an etf/if that already does all that. Buuuut with an etf you pay a small management fee, almost like it’s a managed account. VTI is a popular one (buy more vanguard always!)

I have 3 (4) investment accounts. I don’t really count my 401k since that’s off doing its own thing. Then I have a Roth IRA. That is managed with betterment and I suck it up and take the fees hit with that one. Then I have my investment account. That is etfs and ifs and bonds etc. right now that is with betterment but I am looking at taking that one under my wing on my own, I think I can do that. And cuts out the 0.25 % management fee from them.

those accounts are sort of a need.

then. I have a brokerage account where I give myself “play” money. I was waiting until I paid off the truck but I gave myself a slight early deposit to “play”. That money is a hobby/fun. Like bikes, it suddenly tomorrow my bike was stolen, or I bailed and it went into a tree and suddenly my bike is gone.

    :notsure:

It would be sad and I would want another bike and it wouldn’t be cheap. But. It was a hobby and I can afford to lose it. That’s my brokerage account. If I bail out and lost every penny, yes it would be expensive, and I would be annoyed. And I’d want a new one (with a limit of what I’m putting in per month same as the bike, don’t worry :D).

Where as if I lost my 401k that’s less of a hobby. That’s more like my truck, if that suddenly went into a tree, I wouldn’t brush it off and it would be a major impact on my life financially.

My brokerage account is fun money. I can spend 100$/month on bikes or drop it into my brokerage account and play with stocks instead. Or whatever your rule is for how much you invest. But my 401k, Roth, and investment accounts come first. Those aren’t hobbies.

my investment account is in etfs.

enjoy the cheap gas while it lasts. That’s the point. Price war to drive out shale, oil sands, make hybrids not worth it, etc etc.

Until enough shut down that it doesn’t threaten the crude income stream, and then they go back up miraculously.

it won’t go back up to 2006:7 levels because they’ve learned when that happens we develop hybrids and electric cars. So they keep it cheap enough that those options aren’t profitable and we continue to make petrol and diesel powered cars. So we’ll be back to 2.75/3 bucks a gallon again probably a year or two out.

I read that as the company was merged with another. Looking up the term "Cash Merger" makes it seem that CY stocks for all were flat out bought rather than given stock in the new company.

It will never be that cheap again because states will just ratchet up the gas tax to keep the price around $2 a gallon during this. After things get back to "normal" whatever that is, you will see gas north of $4 a gallon. Especially as states and the feds try to "rebalance" their budgets after this.

What would be even scarier is per mile taxation based off all this contact traceing they have been throwing around as a solution to this problem.

    My prediction.

For investing it will be good to see who's developing all these tracking apps and invest in them as this wont be going away post covid 19.

Depending on which state, but yes.

Not much different than sin or luxury item taxes. The robber barons in gov’t will always want their $$.

On a positive note I do like that this crises is going to propel us into the 21st century I thought I was going to be living in when I was a kid. Look how much telework is becoming the corner stone for business, I would be surprised if within the next 3yrs we would ever have to interact with a button in public again, automation will probably take off. I'm not talking flying cars cool, but probably a lot more robots and automation, especially if we repatriate business to keep costs down and lower workplace insurance risk.

I have been very disappointed in how long it is taking for flying cars.
