I agree but it is what it is. I've still got lots of local open water to fish but not going up to South Lake is going to suck. All this time on my hands and I'm basically twiddling my thumbs.

I think it's really difficult to say whether we overreacted or not. Especially compared to New York. New York is roughly half the population of California. California is looking at around 1,700 deaths while New York is staring down almost 22,000. That's a 13x difference. By the numbers, you'd expect it to be the other way around however, California reacted starting around March 11th. New York waited just a few more days to start and if you believe the photos, many people ignored the distancing thing-which has to be difficult given the population density of a big city.

Given the way COVID-19 spreads, the only real way to get on top of it is social distancing. And the only way to keep it from flaring up is waiting until there are no more cases to to start it up.

What we haven't talked about is the effect the 19 has on people with compromised immune systems or other health issues. It's not good and another reason to keep the spread down. Just a reminder. If you have the flu, you will pass it to one other person. If you have the 19, you will pass it to 3 more people. The number of cases can double every few days-again, this says social distancing works when you compare California to New York. The lack of supplies and panic this caused needs to be addressed.

Oh, and we're not done yet. There's a good chance there'll be another wave-it isn't over for a while.

I think there are definitely things that could be done better, like closing parks or the back country and taking away other recreational opportunities, like the opener or dispersed camping, but people aren't obeying the simple requirement to stay away from one another. We definitely owe it to our first responders not to expose them unnecessarily and to hospitals to keep the numbers down so they aren't treating people in the halls (as they are in NY).

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
Kid was pissy, so took him for a drive. Now I'm sitting in an empty parking lot with him passed out. Why can't there be something to do?!?

Difficult to say because of all the conflicting information. The Wuhan Flu is a really bad flu. No error. Fauci even said so. Of course that Poindexter has said a lot of things. Then there's the main culprit, hysterical predictions Professor Neil Ferguson of the UK, who projected that 2.2 million Americans would die from the Wu Flu. He put the panic in everyone. Here's a question, how can I only infect one person with a common flu, but three people if I have the Wu? Am allowed only one viral hunter killer scout, but three viral hunter killer scouts if I've got the Wu? That seems odd. Back to the predictions, the 2.2 million US deaths number has now been ratcheted down, by the University of Washington model Dr. Fauci now embraces, to about 61,000, the number of Americans who die in a typical bad flu season. We get from 20,000 to 60,000 deaths from the seasonal flu EVERY YEAR. And who are those people? People with compromised immune systems or other health issues. Same as every year. But governors all over the country shut their states down. Going on 15 million unemployed in just 8 weeks. That's insane. That's borderline national destruction. Way overboard.

I don't understand what makes one thing more virulent than another and I suppose it doesn't much matter because it is more contagious and there are other viruses that-like measles. Measles is way more virulent than the 19.

Back to the predictions. In the beginning, you can't know much. The models have no real data to support them so you use models you do know and data you get from studying the virus to adjust as you gain information. When people get sick and recover or die-you adjust the model again.

The bottom line is if we did nothing or something short of sheltering in place, the mortality rate would be much higher than it is. That said, it's always easy, given hindsight, to say we overreacted because we don't know what would have happened otherwise-we can guess based on what happens elsewhere.

I doubt anyone thinks of this as anything less than a worldwide shitshow.
