What are you paying for 2020 Tacomas?

Say you’re buying a truck for 25,000. The dealer is giving you 15,000 for your trade in. You pay taxes on 10,000 vs 25,000

 

For real where is this?

Steep. Do you want the warranty, or the truck? Offer 31k, and leave your number if they feel the need to clear inventory in a few months. But that's just me: I love old rides because... they're paid for.

 

Offering 31$ sounds like they'll just ignore that and not counter. I guess Ill try it though. Not in a rush

 

Yeah, they may just assume you aren't really serious and just move on. $31k for a $43k truck is a 28% discount and I'm sure they'll balk at that. I emailed back and forth with about 14 dealers total that had a truck that I was interested in and the best offer I could get was 13-14% off MSRP. Had I been more flexible on color and some of the options I maybe could have found a dealer willing to offer 15% or something, but I had pretty specific truck in mind.

Judging by this thread, it seems like 10% off or better is a good deal and 15% or better is pretty stellar.

 

Which means there just really aren't many great deals going on right now. Meh, I'll keep my powder dry. I saw what happened to the auto market back from 2008-2010. It was ugly.

 

I wasn't on the market 2008-2010 ( I bought a Camry in 2011 because I needed) and I remember the "Too bit to fail" thing but can't remember if the manufacturer's intensives went up and how much. Did the dealers dropped the prices? Sorry again I didn't follow the car prices at that time.

 

I don't know what new Toyota prices were at the time, but I know that used car prices cratered in a way almost unimaginable, and that new truck dealers were blowing out everything they could to reduce their inventory. In 2010 when I sold my 2005 GMC 1500 4x4 Z71, in excellent condition with 75,000 miles, the absolute best I could do was $12,500. That was like $10,000 less than the blue book had been the year before or something. It was nuts. But I turned right around and bought a used diesel for an equally ridiculous price, so it was kind of a wash.

But I never forgot that lesson on what can happen to used vehicle prices, and the sudden loss of these 22+ million jobs and counting tells me that a similar price event could be unfolding as I type.

 

The other week, I recently read an article about rental car companies that are going to be selling much of their fleets to stay afloat. They go on to talk about that flooding the used car market which will also contribute to tanking the prices of used cars...

It'll be interesting if the new cars will also drop their prices (after a while). I know I'm eagerly watching

 

I have my eye on this (I’m in Ontario Canada) The dealer has applied all incentives (nearly $10,000) my question is should I haggle even more? I’m a horrible at haggling and car buying gives me anxiety lol

Don’t think it’s a good time I buy. Dealers are sitting with inventory. And they won’t get new cars/trucks from the plants since they are closed down?

 

They were supposed to reopen the Mexico production Monday. The Japan plants for 4Runners are supposed to reopen between May 12th and May 18th. I don't think the brief interruption in production is even a blip as compared to the demand destruction from 22+ million lost jobs in the US. New car sales will probably be off over 50% this month, and who knows about next month. This says nothing about the used car market.

 

50% sounds unrealistic

 

Just picked up a 2020 Tacoma Access Cab Off-road, MSRP was $40,583 and I got for $35,099 including all dealer fees but not state taxes & registration fees. I flew up MN for $119 and the drove it home.
