a few questions about 5100's

i plan on getting 5100's sometime to get rid of the 2.5'' spacers and have some questions.

1)you basically just take out the old shocks, set the 5100's to 2.5'', and you have your lift, right?

2)you don't have to get new coils or anything? i understand that new coils will provide a better ride, but i can't afford that for now.

3)will ride quality decrease as the height setting of the 5100's is increased? or i guess i'm trying to say, will setting the 5100's higher, 2.5'' in my case, reduce ride quality compared to if they were set at 0''?

4)one last one, will i lose the lift i get from these over time?

ok, but that would be typical sagging that any truck would have over time, right?

 

would 5100's set at 2.5'' be just as stiff and bumpy as the 2.5'' spacer i now have? because i have read from pretty much everyone on here that has them at 2.5'' that it's stiff. well my spacers are already stiff, so why waste my money on something that would ride the same? that's why i was wanting them, for a better ride quality

 

Because 5100s are designed not to over extend on down travel. Some members have broken shock shafts because of improper lifting techniques. Going on billys website will explain it very well

 

so even if 5100's at 2.5'' are still stiff, they will be better than the spacer because mechanically they work better for my suspension?

 

Yes. The provide much better and much more controlled dampening over stock shocks and spacer lifts. They allow for different levels of lift for many applications. They will probably ride 100% better than your current spacer lift.

NP someone else might chime in as well. Lots of people run spacer lifts and like then, id prefer to spend the little extra for piece of mind and a much better quality lift!

 

I'm in the same boat. Looks like I'm gonna order my 5100's for the front and the toytec AAL tomorrow, seems to be the best bet since I'm only a 4x2 and dont do a ton of off roading, correct?

 

yes, don't mess up like me and get spacers, lol. also, if you have about $1000 to throw around, a spindle lift is pretty nice for the 2wds

 

Not wanting spend quite that much right now. I don't do much dirt driving. Is it the 1.5" or 2" AAL for leveling with the billy's set at 2.5" in the front?

depends on if you have the tsb done for the rear leafs. if you do, the 1.5'' is made for that. if you haven't had the tsb done, 2''. i have the 2'' with 2.5'' up front and it's pretty level.

 

I don't think I do. It's an '08 and I've had it about a yr and a half. I haven't had anything done. 2" it is.

 

2'' AAL and 2.5'' 5100's...sounds good to me

i think that will give it the stock front rake. a 1.5" aal in the rear would be the level look IIRC
