I started with duplicolor clear but I ran out and it wasn't laying down very well. I have a good touch up paint kit and used that clear. Lays down very nice and dries fairly quick. It is a little spendy.

2k clear is an aerosol 2 stage, no good much after you mix the two stages but its as close to automotive as ull find in a can. Pricey as well esp since its a 1 and done can.

Amazing how you can fix orange peel using 1500, 2500, 3000 grit wet sandpaper and a DA. 1 panel down, 10 to go. Looks better than my real one. :annoyed:

Wow! Just read through the whole thread. What a build man. Your attention to detail is great and the paint looks fantastic so far!

I know I over-do just about everything but didn't like that some areas the clear laid down nice and other areas it orange peeled so I made it all the same.
I'll be building another one next winter that will be wide body long travel for thrashing.

Black trim started. Lots of little pieces done. Starting around windows to simulate rubber seals and A pillar vinyl. Still have front and rear windows and wheel wells.

No, not bragging. My truck grille has oval holes. Too hard to replicate on such a small scale. Plus this little thing took me 2 hours to make. This build is more challenging than I thought. :hattip:

    Looking good.

It would probably be easier to match the truck grill to the model grill.

The only negative thing about this thread...

I found it and read every word, only to get to the end and discover the story isn’t finished!

But for real op, excellent craftsmanship!

Some people assemble models, some take it to an entirely higher level and start approaching what I consider art.

Finished cutting step bars to length and coming up with mounting brackets which just need to be trimmed and some non skid pads. Look fairly close to OEM. Now onto to final assembly this weekend. I only get one full day off so hoping 2-3wks and body should be done. :D
