Hi TW, I ordered a pair of 3157 bulb for my 2013 Toyota Tacoma. So the bulb I bought is not the anti hyper flash bulbs, it uses 5w of power per bulb and I will also me tapping in a pair of led strips(12w per strip) to the top of my headlight, I want to know if this is enough power to prevent hyper flashing. In total,17w of power and 1.33A. 5975C58C-68E9-4170-B014-91FECD4903F8.jpg7C1E5903-9CC7-4329-89AC-3A76328A379F.jpg

If you’re going to use those 3157s in the front, I hope you ordered CK LEDs.

I’m referring to the 3157 LEDs. There are CK bulbs and non CK. For use in the front of Tacos, you must use CK bulbs. If they don’t mention CK, they’re not. The picture shows the contacts in the socket and the direction of current flow. It doesn’t matter for incandescent bulbs, but it definitely matters for LEDs.

Oh no! It's not CK, so is there any ways to make it work?

you can put it in the rear because the rear socket only has 2 terminals.

Ok, I saw a thread whereby three person take apart it plug and change the wiring so it can fit CK.

The whole idea of getting this led bulb was to get stop the heat from the halogens because it makes the spot get white and scratched up. But if can get it to stay at a solid color like drls it can work too because I am already working turn signal led strips to the headlight.

I have been running a non-ck 3157 led white in my drl/signal bulb.

    What you do is:
Use a 9 volt battery to bench test which terminal gives you the bright and ground. They will be diagonal from each other. See the diagram posted above for the non-ck bulb.

Once you find out which one the Signal(bright) and ground, tape over or cut off the wires of the ground that's on the same side as the signal wire. As well tape off or cut the tail(dim) wire off.

Now you have a single circuit LED 3157 which works as a drl and signal.
With the Signal and Grounds on the diagonal available to contact the Tacoma signal/drl socket with the correct wires.

I've been doing this for 3 years trouble free. . I also made a harness with a resistor across the two wires to stop the hyper flash.

Also done the anytime foglight mod. See the pic. White LED drl on, Foglight on, Spyder housing.

But do you know what is the tail(dim) for?

And what will happen if I cut off the signal(bright) and the ground then use the tail (dim) ?

Then I don't think anything works.

The signal/drl socket on the Tacoma uses the 2 of the 4 contacts. Bright and Gnd.

See the diagram. On a ck setup the grounds are on the right side. Making it the same as non-CK only for the Bright to Ground.

The Dim and Diagonal ground are not connected to anything on the Tacoma socket.

If you didn't cut of tape off the Dim wire, it blows a fuse because it shorts directly to ground the second you turn in the truck ( therefore turning on DRL )

On a non-ck bulb, the Dim/tail with ground will not be in the same orientation, and being a led, it is polarity sensitive so it wont work.

The DRL and Signal uses the bright to ground pins only.

The dim/tail wires are not used.
Dim is too dim to be useful for anything.

learned something new....those CK bulbs are double the price. LOL

by using them does it omit the need for a resister to eliminate the hyper flash or is that still an issue?
