Good morning all. A few more early morning cars going by the last few days, Some must be working. We're lucky to have retired before the chit hit the fan. Income hasn't been affected. In fact, we have even more than before... we're not spending it going out to eat, shop, whatever. I haven't been to an atm in a month.
Looks like OH is "re-opening" May 1. It will be a slow process. I hope people do what is needed, and don't screw it up for everyone.
Welp, off to the mailbox. Lysol, plastic bag in hand. Have a good day, be safe. This too, shall pass.

True True. When I went to my family physician he also stated that he had been teleconferencing with patients. When he made his statement about the lowered caseload, I didn't clarify if that included his teleconferencing or not.

Rain.jpg Morning folks. I need to have some nice weather so I can do some outdoor projects. Deck needs to be cleaned as well as the house siding. Tacoma needs a bath and good cleaning on the inside. Have a safe day and be well folks.

    Good morning y'all.
I'm jealous over having bees. Expensive to get started. When I was a young, my granddad kept a few hives. I'd have to put a electric fence around them.
Busy day on Friday, cut down another Sugar Pine for firewood, stacked all three loads of Doug Fir I had cut, went for a dirt bike ride with a neighbor who comes up some in the summer to show him some FS roads, had another (paid $50) use his little Bobcat to bring me some manure, about two pickup loads worth. Great, productive day.

Should have added yesterday, it's a crime all those Senior care or Care facilities having all their residents dying.

I agree Duane, even here in Tucson where the infection is low - one home was up to 22 with C-19. My ma (92) is at a place in southern Missouri and they haven't allowed visitation for many weeks now - and they have a considerable medical check of all people who are working there every shift as they come in. Hope nothing slips through!

We ended up with just 4 new colonies arriving - actually OK because we are starting them in hives that already have comb so they will populate quickly and we'll get splits. With the temp at 40F they were really docile except for one batch that were not too happy to be kicked out their little box and into the hive.:duel: Bee suits rule.

Are "Africanized" bees a problem in PA? A fellow we know is a keeper and he told me there were no remaining "wild" hives around in Arizona that are not. Outside of that he told me that they are big producers despite their aggressive tendencies. Apparently to combat this in his own hives and (also get the production), he said he buys "tame" (?) queens that are not prone to the aggressive behavior and then gives them protection while they lay eggs for newer mixed generations. How this is accomplished, I have no idea.

A neighbor walking in the Roger Wash behind our house was attacked. Called 911 and firemen rescued her, battling the swarm with foam. Emergency room doctor said she had 216 stings and it was a miracle that she survived.

We have not had that problem here in PA...at least, yet. There are generally 3 types of bees sold with one new strain gaining popularity. Russian, Italian, Carniolan and the new one is Saskatraz. I listed them in terms of aggressiveness. We've never used Russian bees - know someone who did and got stung often. We've typically had a mix of Italian and Carniolan. In the 5+ years we've had the apiary, I've been stung twice...both times while cutting grass when a bee got hung up in my hair by accident. We are now trying two colonies of Saskatraz bees. The were developed in Saskatchewan and are supposed to be more resistant to cold and also mites. Both good traits here in northeast PA. We'll see.

I'll check them today - should be a nice day for them with temps in the mid 60s although it's below freezing now. The coming week is going to be in the 50s so that will also keep them active and working on their new homes.

    Be safe, everyone!!

Good Morning All. Hope you are all doing well. My wife and I are trying to find ways to keep ourselves busy during this crisis. A friend of ours works at the local hospital and said, as we all know, there is a short supply of face masks. So my wife, Lorie is making the masks for patients in the cancer wing and I'm dropping them off. Just trying to do our part and keep busy. I pray that this ends soon. Good Morning Folks. A great weather day on tap for today. I will probably do some outside work just to get out of the house.

Welcome to the thread John (@Const.Off.). Please tell your wife THANK YOU for making those great looking face masks and also to your self for delivering them. I am sure they are greatly appreciated by all that need them. Enjoy the posts and tell the folks more about yourself. Be safe and be well.

To All. A little about myself. The most important thing is that I will be retiring in 2 years, 2 months and 7 days. Not that I'm counting. My job is considered essential (government) so I still have to go in every day. With the stay-at-home order in place, I've done more mods to my truck in the past month then I've done in the past two years. I'm usually out hiking the Appalachian Trail (my passion) otherwise. How much of the trail have you done? I am not much of a hiker, but definitely enjoy the trails at Ricketts Glen State park in PA. Have hiked the waterfall trails several times and never get tired of seeing them. Hang in there on retirement because it will be there soon enough and then you'll have plenty of mod time (only once the honey-do list is done....LOL)

From south to north on the AT. I've hiked NC, TN, part of VA, part of PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA, part of NH and part of ME. I always hike solo and year round. Can't wait for the AT to reopen. Not that its closed, but the Appalachian Trail Conservancy has recommended that the trail not be used during this crisis. Bummer.

Welcome and also a big Thank You to you and your wife for the masks and all you do!

I'm down to 72 days until retirement - not that I'm counting but Lynn is. :) This will be my second, and final, retirement.

    Great group of folks here!
