I hear it can be done. People have been using a coupler to make the connection. I’m going to call ARB and see what they recommend and I’ll post something:thumbsup:

4C3675D1-22A6-47AA-B2D7-7C751A7859B7.jpg So this is the answer I got from ARB in regards to installing a ARB snorkel on a 2nd gen Tacoma with a TRD CAI. Basically the answer I got was sell your TRD CAI and buy a used OEM air intake. He says it would be easier to do it that way vs finding the right fitting to make the connection:(

Where does the CAI pull in the air from? Probably from the same hole that the standard air box uses, so you would just adapt the intake side of your airbox to suit the intake hose that connects from the snorkel to the airbox.

People have done it with the Dobinsons snorkel, but I don't think anyone has posted it here with photos of what they did and how they adapted it.

Also, you'd think the intake pipe of the CAI kit wouldn't be a different size than stock, unless it's bigger.

I was one of the guinea pigs for fitment. I can’t recall the thread but I think it’s started by Dobinsonmike

I definitely hated the install but for the price it’s hard to beat.

Although, I haven't done it on the TRD CAI, we ( @tex.proud ) and I ran into the same situation with his aftermarket air box. We modified the Dobinson's snorkel and instead of his expensive air box. Function has been 100%, AFAIK

Truth. A simple cut to the Dobinsons going into the engine bay made it fit and function perfect with my S&B intake.

Oh well I guess I’m going to have to remove my TRD CAI and replace it back with the stock air intake.

luckily I was able to get a used one on eBay awhile back for dirt cheap, only thing missing is the air hose which I’ll buy new for $83 at Conicelli Toyota stock parts. They sell stock parts for cheaper price then at dealership. I posted a link below if your interested

Happen to have any photos? Big part I see if the part going to the air box has the flat spot which is why it doesn’t fit. I assumed I would have to go shorter on it too.

Has the template issue with Dobinsons been rectified yet on the production level? Honestly would rather go with Dobinsons over that ugly “safari” plastered ARB snorkel but if one company is failing to get the template right then it casts doubt in there overall production quality.
Has anyone had both or experience with both?

I wouldn't let the template detract from the product quality. I was very critical of the template but overall the snorkel has been awesome. Just go in knowing you need to work with it.

I personally don’t mind the Safari emblem, gives the snorkel character. I’m not a big fan of a temple that is off.

    Go big or go home:thumbsup:

I have a buddy who does installs and he says the ARB clearly allows for more airflow but the dobinson isn’t bad either. Says quality is good and all... I am now curious about what kind of airflow we’re talking about. I doubt it’s anything significant

I’ve heard the same about ARB’s air flow being better. ARB products are the best and they’ve been around for a long time. I’d rather pay a little extra knowing that I’m getting a top of the line product that won’t fail me.

Does anyone know what the intake size is on the top of the dobinson is? Looking to get a Sy-klone prefilter when I order the snorkel and needed to see if I needed a 3" or 4" model.
