As it says, I am looking for some emergency vehicle lighting installers to help me out. I work security and just ordered some lights for my truck.

    This set:
    https://www.extremetacticaldynamics...-dash-light-and-2-orion-6-tir-surface-mounts/

    This Traffic Advisor:
    https://www.amazon.com/Traffic-Emer...or+light+bar&qid=1587077745&sr=8-4&th=1&psc=1

I am looking for advice on how to install it and best locations to put them. Also any advice on a good control box with pattern selection capabilities so i do not have to turn them on and off consistently to change the patterns. Is it better to just wire all the lights into a single control box?

I drive a 2012 DCLB Prerunner TRD Sport V6 with pretty much all stock equipment.

Any advice is appreciated. If you are wondering my Location it is Panama City Beach, FL

    Thank you
    Sam

The TA is a pain in the ass on pickups. You are going to have to drop the headliner and find some ribbing in the roof to drill into and likely make your own brackets because you have to drop the light down so far. It looks like the mounting brackets it comes with are meant for a rear deck of a car or rear hatch of an SUV.

That chaser windshield light is obviously for the front windshield. Just don't put it too far down the windshield that it blocks the defroster vent of you'll always have a foggy center windshield. The two linear light heads I would put on the front grill.

These lights aren't really intended to be controlled with an intelligent controller. It looks like the windshield light is powered by a cigarette lighter and is standalone. The TA is standalone. And based on the description, the two light heads are a 4 wire light head. Power, ground, a sync wire (to sync with downstream/upstream light heads) and a trigger wire. The trigger wire is normally a negative or positive trigger that will cycle through the build in flash patterns. You could set them to steady burn and then flash them with an intelligent controller, but they would not be tied to the windshield light nor the TA.

So apparently the lights i ordered from ETD (dash+grille) are not gonna be ready soon. Supposedly they source their materials from Asia and do not have them readily available despite saying the lights were 'in stock'. I call that false advertising but will give them til I get my Traffic Advisor. If they are not ready by than (1-2 weeks) than I will cancel the order, demand a refund to my BANK account, and write a complaint/review.

This was their message to me:

We do apologize for the delay with your order. At this time the item you have ordered is awaiting completion of the build process due to production delays. We use multiple factories in Asia to supply us with some of our raw materials, such as plastics, wiring, metals, etc. Unfortunately due to unforeseen medical emergencies in Asia, this caused factories and entire cities to shut down and we could not acquire the parts we needed. However, the factories that we use are back online and we are starting to receive the needed parts so we can complete your item build. Once the build is complete we will ship out to you as quickly as possible.

If you can not wait to see what we can do is offer you an alternative similar item, or if you would like a different item or color please let us know. Again we do apologize for the delay and appreciate your understanding.

BTW: Since the TA is white/Amber I need to make the white parts green because the lights on Security vehicles have to be amber or 50-50 green/amber. Any ideas on that?

    Buy American.
Whelen lights are all manufactured (and all parts sourced) here in the USA.

Trust me, if I had the money I would. But Extreme Tactical Dynaics claimed to be made in the USA and the deal was too good to pass up. $75 for a Dash light AND 2 grille/surface mounts. I fell for it. Know any places that sell them cheaper than the Whelan site?

Whelen doesn’t sell direct. You have to go through a rep group, distributor, or upfitter.

Strobes N More and Dana Safety Supply probably have the best prices for online.
Off the top of my head, Dana has a shop in Tallahassee and Gulf Coast Upfitters is over in Milton.

All good options if you can afford them, but I only get 42hr/wk and get $10.75/hr. I have credit card debt of like $5K but also still owe like $22K on my truck ($400/mth), not to mention the insurance (need full coverage so runs me like $226/mth).

The other issue is getting them in Amber/Green split, I am sure you can get the surface mount/grille lights in 1X Amber+1X Green, but the dash/visor light would need to be amber/green split to meet the state requirements of Amber/Green 50-50. Not even sure how they will react to my TA being amber/white instead of amber/green.

TBH, if I could I would get a full Whelen or full Code 3 setup

So, i got my TA, issue is it does not have a cigarette lighter power plug like I thought just a pos/neg wire (red/black). So I can not test it to see how it works and would need to be wired into a power block or something. Still waiting on the ETD lights though.

Issue with that is it would confuse people, I am a Security Officer not construction or Utility. I need 50-50 split Green/Amber to differentiate me from them.

ETD just sent me an E-mail claiming that it will be another 10-15 days on my lights from them. This is ridiculous, it said the set in those colors was "in stock" but now they are saying they need to make them. I think it is just an excuse so I will not sue them or ask for a refund. I will give them 15 days to ship it, but if it has not been shipped by then I will cancel, demand a refund, and report them for false advertising and possibly fraud.

So, I think I figured out where to mount my TA. I got it powered with a $10 12v fused adaptor (http://finddormanhelp.com/Product?ProductID=1514&q=56490) and plan on using a pair of headliner mount T-Brackets to mount it right over my back seat. I made a video of how i will run the wire and the location. Wire runs from rear window down crevice of seat belt, under mats, and to front of truck.

He is cheap. Sides I do not wanna get shot one day while doing a vehicle patrol. Solid Black truck, no markings driving round a secure/gated community would seem suspicious. So I got the TA, a dash light, and 2 grille lights (still waiting on the dash and grille lights. Lighting company took my $$ on 9 Apr but the order is still listed as 'awaiting fulfillment') for it since the only thing we get at some of those big sites is a golfcart. Not a good Idea in the winter or wind or torrential downpours we sometimes get in FL.

As far as the TA, I plan on getting a better one in the future (green/amber when in flash modes, pure amber in directional mode). I know you can run the wire under tge sideboard and around to a mount.

sorry, I’m just wrapping my head around this. You spent your money to retrofit your truck to drive around with your gas to make someone else money? I don’t mean to be an asshole however I don’t find that okay and I think you’re being taken advantage of.
