    Background:
I had a 3rd Gen 4Runner for 7 years, which I built up from stock, took it all over the country, and wheeled it a bunch. 35s, elocker, 5.29s, armored all around. I loved it, but I eventually wanted something newer and different.

I learned a ton through that build, and it gave me a good idea of what I did and didn't want to do on this build.

I wanted a 12-15 DCSB TRD OR with the Entune radio in Magnetic Grey. After searching every car listing website for a few weeks, I finally found exectly what I was looking for listed near Chicago. I did find a few that were closer, but they were all ~8k more. It had a little bit of rust on it, but mostly on the bumpers/hitch/etc., all parts that I knew were eventually getting pulled off. Additionally, it had higher miles than I had hoped for (120k), but that's not something I'm too concerned about. I few out there 2 days after Christmas, and was happy to sign some papers and make it mine. Drove through a blizzard straight home, and made it no problems!

It was super clean on the inside, too.

I started purchasing all of the new parts pretty quickly, and slowly accumulated a little pile of parts to go on. Myself and a few others were able to get everything on just a few days before leaving for King of the Hammers.

For the front suspension, I went with the King 2.5 extended travel coilovers with the remote resi and SPC upper control arms. The SPC uppers make fitting 35s (coming soon!) much easier by being able to push the tire forward in the wheel well, away from the pinch weld. I also pulled the swaybar off while I was in there. On my 4Runner, I went through 3 different suspension setups, finally ending up with Kings front and rear. They're definitely worth the money, IMO. Install on these is very straightforward and easy.

For the rear suspension, I decided on the OME EL095R leafs. It seems like these should give me about the lift I'm looking for. I also ordered the Archive Garage shock relocation kit and some King 14x2.5s, but they weren't done in time. Not a problem, I went ahead and installed the leafs so that I could atleast make it level. Sadly no pictures of this, we were trying to get it all done quick!

Next up was the front bumper. After hearing that C4 Fab was making their hybrid bumper for a 2nd gen, I knew what bumper I was going with. Install is easy, requires minimal cutting, and looks amazing. I had it powder coated semi-gloss black. This bumper is inevitably going to be beat up and scratched, but having the powder coat in the hard-to-reach corners makes touchups easy and keeps rust to a minimum.

Looks amazing! I'll have to get some lights in it soon.

I also picked up a (fake) pro grille off eBay and had a buddy who works at a paint shop color match the surround.

For a roof rack, I added the Sherpa Equipment Co. Grand Teton with the half fairing and black hardware. I had it powder coated to match the bumper (semi-gloss black). The stock rack took longer to get off than this rack took to get on. We had it installed in about 30 minutes once it was off!

I still haven't decided if I want to run a lightbar up there or not, which is why I opted for a half fairing for now. I may eventually swap this out for the full, we will see.

I also added an Adapt Plate, which I'm mostly using as an antenna mount and a nice platform to stand on. More on that in a few posts.

Most importantly, wheels and tires! I spent a looooong time looking at different wheel and tire options, but am happy with what I settled on.

For the wheels, I had a few options in mind, but many of them didn't have an offset/backspacing I was looking for, and I was trying to avoid spacer. I eventually decided on the Black Rhino Rumbles in 17x8.5, -22 offset. This was slightly more poke than I was looking for, but it's grown on me.

Tire wise I went with Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in 315/70R17. After having STT Pros previously, I wanted something that lasted longer and wasn't as noisy. As good as the STT Pros work offroad, I'm still on pavement 98% of the time. So far I've got about 5000 miles on them through snow, mud, and dry pavement, and I'm still very happy with them. Priced very well, too..

I did a quick and dirty body mount chop and trimmed the front fenders/flares where it was rubbing. The pinch weld got pushed back as much as I could with the sledge. Nothing pretty, but it gets the job done. I'll probably eventually plate the body mount in and clean up the pinch weld. The fenders need more trimming too, but that can wait. I was in a hurry to get ready for a big road trip!

Over the past few years, our group has converted to HAMs, as they're much much better than CB. For this, I went with an Icom 2730a 50W dual band radio. I had a similar radio in the 4Runner, but a few small features like the big screen and ability to plug the mic into the transceiver directly sold me on this upgrade. I copied @Ripcord's radio mount, which fits into the cubby below the climate controls. It's the perfect spot and it looks good, too. Before anyone asks, yes, I do have my license. The test is quick, easy, and cheap, no reason not to do it!

The transceiver went under the driver seat, and the power run directly to the battery. This was also a good spot for the antenna wire to come into the body through a grommet also under the seat, which was run along the rear window seal and next to the driver's side rocker.

For the antenna, I went with a simple Tram dual band 19" antenna mounted to the Adapt Plate on the rack. This gives it a nice ground plate to work with.

Another thing I saw in @Ripcord's build thread were the RAM mounts. I couldn't find anyone that was making them, so I designed my own and 3D printed them. It took 10+ iterations to get the curve perfect, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

For a dashcam (cheap insurance, in my opinion), I picked up a Viofo Spy Tec A119 v3 and their hardwire kit. Using an add-a-fuse off the door lock fuse and another one off of the accessory fuse, allowing it to go into parking mode when the truck is turned off.

Not super obvious looking from the front.

I got the 3 front skids, gas tank skid, and sliders from RCI. They're local to me, which always helps! I had their armor on my 4Runner and loved them.

Decided on bolt on 20deg sliders, as I had weld-ons on the 4Runner and sometimes wish I could have taken them off to paint. Also got all of the armor powder coated (directly from RCI).

    Lots of boxes!

    Rear bumper:
I went with the Relentless Fab high clearance. I think it's one of the better looking ones for 2nd gens (with the flare kickout), and it shipped quick!

Once it was mounted up I headed up to the mountains for a quick night to test everything out.

I knew I needed to trim my fenders/flares, so I got the bumper mounted up and started cutting. Trimmed the front, too.
I also trimmed the bumper to fit the new lines, cutting the ends off and welding the plate on the end back on. This took much longer than I thought, mostly due to how the flare kickout is built. Very happy with the outcome though. Sent it off to our powder coater and had it matched to my front bumper.

Again, happy with how this turned out. Now to get some lights to fill in the holes and scratch it up on some rocks!

Any interest in printing two more of those mounts? I know someone here used to make them back in the day but it doesn’t seem like he’s active anymore! Great build so far by the way!
