Well another Taco takes a beating. Guy coming off the highway exit going about 60. Didn't even tap the brakes. Sitting at the stop light and he plows in the back of me and I slam into the car in front of me. Luckily I saw it coming and swerved just a little.

Regardless, look at the damage of his truck and then look at the Tacoma. Considering the impact it is incredible that more damage wasn't done.

Does cab damage increase the chances of it being totaled or is a cab repair fairly straight forward?

Glad you’re ok. Since the bed hit the cab, there is a chance your frame is tweaked. Also cab repairs are expensive if done right, and frame super expensive. I’d guess you’re right up against the totaled mark. But that’s a complete guess going on pictures and making a lot of assumptions.

Cab damage can be repaired depending on how deep it goes. They can order a side an rear panel of the cab, its welded on under the black trim on the roof, then in the door jambs under the seals, along the front and rear windows under the glass and then along the rear panel and rockers. While its a available part, most will just total it at that point.

You need tailgate, bedside, composite bed, fender, bumper (front and rear) passenger headlight and tail light, grills, cab side.... pretty much the whole right side of the truck except the doors.
There is a chance there is some frame damage back there too as the hitch on these take a good amount of the impact. If the airbags did not deploy and/or there is no frame damage, then there is a good chance it wont be totaled, but there is about 10-15k in damage, most of that is going to end up as labor.

I'm surprised your airbags didn't go off. I'm gonna put one in the totaled column. Too much stuff needs repair on top of the almost certainly bent frame. It did take that whole situation like a champ though.

Unfortunately, probably totaled. The frame is likely bent to shit. Truck definitely did it’s job and kept you safe. Props to Toyota for a solid truck.

Glad to hear you came out safe! Taco took a beating and came out on top!
Hopefully, the frame is not bent and you can upgrade with that insurance claim.

If it is totaled I am entitled to take the suspension, wheels, tires, sliders, etc. right? Those are not damaged.

Do you have your take off parts still? If not, I would start to find some so you can swap your stuff out if they decide to total. Yes you should be able to take it off but they won’t want to pick up a truck missing suspension, wheels, tires...

I just sold it all last month!!! Wonder if they'd give me the value of the parts on the truck. The tires have 4,000 miles on them, damn it.

It depends. Some of them will, but not always and not guaranteed.

I had a truck totalled, and the other insurance company (at fault) tried to screw me over. I read the fine print, called my insurance company about it, faxed them the forms, and they told me not to talk to them anymore.

they gave me max value for my truck, and reimbursed me for every penny I spent on the truck that I had a receipt for. Wheels, tires, suspension, battery, alternator, wax, etc... and then turned around and sued the other company to get the money back.

kind of a weird situation, but it is possible. I would talk to your insurance company about it, quick phone call, they usually know about other companies and how they operate and can give you better information

    Glad you're ok!

Like others have said, I think I would start searching craigslist/scrap yards for tires/wheels, suspension etc. Don't buy anything fancy. Wheels & tires that roll and kinda hold air should be fine.
You're not going to get any value out of your mods/new tires, and I believe once insurance declares it a loss, you wont be able to pull anything off of it as at that point they'll be paying you for it thus, it's theirs. Also, grab seatcovers, floor mats, interior mods, etc.
EDIT- Just saw jmauvais response, hopefully his experience works for you too!
