Yes all maple I just have random boards holding up the doors on account they aren't connected yet.
Never made a vanity before but so far so good.

 

So I finally ordered my table saw and miter saw (thanks goverment for $1200 extra cash..!)

Currently teaching myself fusion360 because I hate the web version of sketchup. I don't have a planer and I don't have a joiner.

Going to make a shoe cubby with a pull open chute for laundry, should I just stick with pine since it's relatively cheap and will most likely be painted with a super heavy duty paint since we're putting shoes in it?

 

I prefer poplar over pine at a minimum personally.

 

Also, there are many tricks to get jointer-like results without one using your brand new table saw

 

I've never really liked poplar either. I used to do finish work for a carpenter and I've always felt poplar is as soft as pine but more expensive.

I'm not above buying a portable planer and a jointer, this is just a simple enough job that's probably going to end up muddy that I don't feel like perfection is necessary.

Also, @98tacoma27 know of any local places to pick up wood? Long term I'll probably just start getting rough from the Amish but short term I need some mostly finished material.

 

One advantage poplar has over pine is the relative lack of pitch. Blades last longer.

 

Sounds like you had your answer already then lol. Also, the Amish are so cool! Wish we had some around here.

 

Personally I like oak and hard maple, but I'm in need of a supplier before I figure out if that's cost effective.

 

And it takes primer better than pine which is a good choice for paint grade material.

 

Both good points. I suppose in the end it's going to depend on what wood I can get at what price.

 

You can make anything look good. Look at some of the pallet wood stuff! Everything looks better if you make it anyway.

Caulk and paint make me the carpenter I ain't.
