with me they had a reason to not let me communicate with the insurance company. I was rear ended on the freeway, and the other company sent me a “form to sign so they could get everything started” that started with me declaring that I accept responsibility for the collision. I read that and thought, this isn’t right... so that’s why my insurance company handled it.

normal circumstances they won’t do much for you if the other vehicle is at fault, but they will help you and answer questions if you need it.

i wouldn’t suggest trying to get your insurance to take care of it all for you, but they can answer questions about knowing if the other company will cover the cost of mods and upgraded wheels/suspension or if you should try to remove them before or after adjustment or after declaring it totalled, basically just ask what you should do since you spent the money on the upgrades and you don’t know if you’ll lose it or not

Uninsured motorist so I will be using my insurance policy for the claim. It is fine, I can deal with that, just want a fair process. Yeah, sure, right?

Ah heck I’m sorry man. Call up your insurance to ask what they think is best. I’m assuming since you are their own client they will allow you to remove parts IF it is totaled (we might be getting ahead of ourselves). I think they’d rather allow you to remove them than pay for them on top of your trucks value.

I do hope we are getting ahead of ourselves for sure. But then again the truck will never be the same.

Glad you're okay. Pretty sure that's totaled I had same thing happen to me on my 2nd gen .I got hit reared about 45mph. Your frame is most likely bent. Make sure you get a throughly check up. Whiplash wont effect you till days later. I ended up going to 30+ chiropractor treatments

Good to see that these trucks do a good job of protecting the occupants. Glad you're okay OP and best of luck with the insurance process.

Honestly, it is better to get it totaled.
Had my truck hit in September. took 4 months to get repaired by a Toyota dealership the right way. Had to fight with insurance on a rental car for that time.
I was only $2k off totaling truck.
Got it back with 1 new tire because insurance would only cover tire that had impact. Ended up buying 3 new out of my pocket.
Dealership didn't align correctly with the lift and aftermarket UCA's adding castor. Hard to keep tabs on progress from a dealership for 4 months. I wanted credited for the tire, but i had so many aftermarket parts it was a trainwreck trying to sort out
It's been painful, and i know the truck will never be the same.

It was a lot of labor. If your frame is ok, you might get lucky. :fingerscrossed:

I had a very similar accident with my truck that's probably worth 1/3 to 1/2 what yours is (2006 single cab prerunner with high miles) rear ended to the side by a car going about 40. The inside of my bed had a small amount of damage not repaired because replacing the inner bed peice would have totaled it. Messed up the bed side tailgate, bumper, pushed bed into cab. No front end damage and yours doesnt look bad upfront. Mine wasnt totaled but was close I imagine it would take 20k in damage to total yours and mine was fixed by the toyota dealer body shop for around $5000, except replacing the bed which would have been another 2k or 3k

Look at the frame to see if you see it wrinkled, stretched or bent in the rear.

It really sucks to see another ‘17 go down. If the driver that caused the accident did not have insurance I hope that the cops gave them a big fine and a court date.
I wonder if you could go down to the court house, file for restitution and get their paychecks garnished to pay for some of your losses...

I agree - it looks like a HARD off-center / biased impact and no crumple zones... - This puts a large torsional load on the frame. I see your hood and fender have significant gaps - not a definitive as it is hard to tell from the pictures - but this may be a tell-tale sign...

I believe you'll be better off if totaled... as you'll see residual issues for a long time to come.

Plus your carfax is gonna look horrible and resale will be less. I'd hope for total and that you get to keep at least some of your parts.

So looking like about $13k in damage. No frame damage they said. Toyota dealership is fixing it so they completely disassembled it to get the right estimate.
