Hey Connecticut, our everything hurts

Not sure to be honest. It all started in December, when I bent down to pick up a bag of pellets to refill the stove. Felt a pinch i guess you could call it. From that point on it felt "tight" on the left side, lower back. It kinda felt like a pulled muscle. Over the period of the week it felt better, so I kept playing soccer. Some days it felt better, some worse, but over a period of a month it felt like it totally went away. But there was a night during that period of time that I couldn't move because of pain that night, nor sleep. Kinda felt like a possible pinched nerve or something. But by middle of the following day it felt much much better.

Yesterday, when trying to bring in the water softener on a dolly and up a few low steps, I tried to pull the dolly up and over a step, and BAM. Feels like it did when I first messed it up back in December.

 

It could just be a muscle pull both times for sure or perhaps something else. Or just dumb luck that you did the same basic thing both times.

Heating pad and Tylenol right now is what I recommend for ya

 

When this virus calms down, get a MRI and a good Ortho back guy.

I had a blowout in L4-L5. No back pain at all ,but wicked painful Sciatic pain in my right leg. Nothing to laugh at.
Had surgery 3 years ago. All is good 'cept for some nerve damage in my foot.

 

Used the heating pad last night for a good chunk while watching Narcos Season 3 with the Mrs. Felt like it helped. This morning obliviously woke up feeling stiff, so took a couple ibuprofen, and felt better as the day went on. I'm sure it also helped that I wasn't sitting down and getting stiff, and tried to move around. While I was out, I ran out to Rite Aid and got one of those ACE brand elastic back support things. Been wearing it since we go home, and I think it's helping.

Shame on me for not having done that sooner to be honest. After I messed up my back the first time, the Mrs and I actually spoke about it. Should have done it then, but completely forgot about it because ti started feeling much better. But this time around gotta make sure I do it for sure.

 

Brace isn't something I know about..I guess it can't hurt per se but remember your limits is my advice. At least if they can X-ray it once things settle down that will give you a better idea if it's something more

 

@Cativelense, be careful with ibuprofen and then going off to do something. You can make it worse because the pain is blocked. About 12 years ago, I herniated a cervical disc C6/C7. It felt like a pulled muscle except I had stinging numbing pain in two fingers. Treatment started with physical therapy for several months. When that was exhausted, I had surgery. Things like that take a lot of time. I herniated the disc by laying on a creeper and reaching up grabbing a wrench. Moved the wrong way, applied a bit of force, and that was that...

 

Yup, no meds and then doing physical activity. The ibuprofen was just to take the pain away so that I could "function" during the day.

 

Hopefully this shit will all blow over soon so I can go get it all checked out.

 

Random question though.

Does anyone know anything about mountain bikes by chance? My pops gave me one that he had, and for some reason when I change it to 2nd gear it won't change... But it goes into 3rd. Trying to see if there is a way to fix that... Possibly tightening the cable?!

 

I do have a back brace, but almost never use it. I suspect one of those Dr. Ho back braces would help me, but I refuse to pay $100 for a $4 inflatable cushion.
So far my approach is to avoid any braces or pills - I'm trying to get/stay in touch with my limits & learn to obey them.
I'll take pills when I get to the point of it hurts beyond wanting to cry. But sometimes you just know you have to do something that is going to cause an issue but you've just got to do it - then the brace comes out or the pills. YMMV.

 

sounds like its' jumping a gear, maybe your derailleur is gummed up? Try watching what's happening at the rear while you adjust the cable.

 

How do I adjust the cable? Do I just have to tighten it at the end, where it's held on by a bolt/screw?

 

Started to detail the inside of the Tacoma, some progress made but spent most of the day with the grandkids. Their living with us now and so is their mother.

We're all recovering from moving to a new house.

Easiest way to describe what we'er going through is this ,

LOL - that's been sitting awhile.
You mark the edge of the cable, loosen that nut, then twist that 'thumb wheel' at the end of the cable. Tighten the cable & cinch down the bolt to lock it in. The bolt is the lock on the cable, but that spring & the threaded end are your actual adjustments.
But i'd bet your grease is just too old & dusted up. gone a bit hard on you. I'd clean & relube whichever one is moving from 1 to 3 to 4. I suspect 2 is a slight movement that is missing from old grease.

 

One step at a time. Probably make those boxes go away with C'list.

 

Gonna try greasing it up a bit tomorrow after putting in my work shift then.

Shifters are my weak point, but if it's not going into 2nd try very slowly moving the shifter. It might just have a longer travel from 1-2 than the other gears. I do agree that you might just have some sediment there so perhaps just give it a few days of use.

That said, other than that subject LMK if you need help. I am mainly BMX on that area

 

Edit..adding you might have some slack in the cable which means the lever moves more to go 1-2, but if you move it further you could be skipping 2nd.

 

I'll grease it up, or just start using the bike, and see what happens.

It's been hanging up in my dad's garage for who knows how long.
