    Before you cast, do you dunk your rig in the water to test if the bait/hook/line float.
    If it does not float, you wont catch shit unless the fish hits while you are reeling.

    You have to work at it, they don't just jump out and on to your stringer. Trout are smart because they can see and are selective about what they eat. Bass are dumb because they are hungry and get mad.

    The size treble hook is a 18 that you should be using. Like theselarge_276_35518-018.jpg

    If using a single hook for a worm or like the mouse tail I posted earlier should be a 24. Like the size of a fly hook.
    Leader line test should be no more than 4lb, 2 if you think you are man enough.
    Next will be leader length. 12 inches to 5ft depending on location and conditions (typically structure related). If you need a longer leader than that, switch to a bobber and go from the top down. Start at about 18 inches and go up to 5ft. Add split shot to keep bait from floating to the surface
