You can always go gravel bike and put road tires or less aggressive gravel tires on it. I’m riding a cyclocross bike with 28mm tires on it and I like it. That way you have the tire clearance just in case

Where I am at we have a lot of unpaved roads like this picture I found. We also have the typical black asphalt roads that are potted/patched/in disrepair, caliche, gravel, etc. I was afraid on a road bike the narrower tires would make it interesting. The bigger tires also help provide a more comfortable ride.

Apparently some people ride gravel bikes on single track but I use the Tallboy for all off road/trail riding. I tried using the Giant Talon 2 I own a few times for road riding but it wasn't cutting it for distance/speed.

Like @113tac mentioned, you can always run a narrower road focused tire on the bike for less rolling resistance.

Nice, we’ve (sort of) got two. The one on the left as a GSP/setter mix and the one on the rights mom was a GSP and dad was a German wirehaired pointer

Thinking of switching the QR axle on my Pike to a Maxle Stealth. Is the $35 really that worth it? Is there one for the rear also?

I was gonna spend the money on pedals, but my friend gave me a pair of raceface chesters today. So won’t be getting pedals anymore.

I replaced my QR with the Wolftooth version when I got Carbon hoops Just makes it a little bit harder for someone to steal the wheel, they’ll need a 6mm anyway.

Chainring advise. 30tooth vs 32tooth vs 34tooth. What do you run and why?

I ran a 32tooth on my Fuel with 1x11 (11-46 cassette) and had no complaints for my area/abilities. The new rig will be 1x12 (10-51 cassette) if that is a factor. I'm leaning towards 32tooth again.

Any reason I should consider going up or down in tooth count?

Honestly I was considering going to 34 on the Fuel before I killed it.

I run 32 oval with 10-51 and it feels about right. Theres some climbs in Pisgah and one trail here in Charlotte that have kept me from going up to a 34T.
