Pulled the trigger and bought a Tacoma. Couldn't find what I wanted here in the mid-west (MT, 3rd gen, <=$25k), so the wife and I are headed across the country by plane to pick it up in New England on Tuesday morning. I'm excited to say the least.

We're buying the truck in New Hampshire and heading home to Colorado. Wondering if anyone who has made this drive (or one similar) could suggest a scenic route back. Google Maps shows two, one along I-90, and one along I-70. Which is prettier? Or would you suggest another route not all on national-throughways?

UPDATE: The link above doesn't work anymore, so here's a few photos of the new truck. Took it to Toyota in Des Moines, IA to have them inspect the undercarriage for rust before we got too far from "cold-weather states".

Congrats. Great truck. I'd opt for the southern route and avoid Chicago. I love the bluegrass region of southern Ohio and central Kentucky (Lexington to Louisville) this time of year, but not sure if its too much of a detour for you. Should be an interesting flight...

Congrats. Let Google do the walking, start with points of interest between the 2 and go from there. Enjoy the drive, the truck and the idiosyncrasies of America.

I grew up in St. Louis, I usually would take I-64 out East whenever I could because I-70 is one of the busiest truck routes. But with everything going on right now, it might not be too bad. I-80 through Nebraska is prettier than I-70 through Kansas imo.
    Be safe flying!

70 & 90 both suck. Try interstate 36. It's old & slow but has a few more hills & twisties.

    Edit: 80 sucks even worse

I’ve driven both and I would vote for 70.

I'd vote for 90. The Black Hills are awesome...and you can see Mount Rushmore after many hours of dodging tumbleweeds! Don't forget Wall Drug.

Be sure to vary the engine RPMS and speed for the 1st 500 miles, dont just put it in high gear and coast for hours.

Not sure what your plan is to get out of New England, but last year we took a drive from Maine to Maryland to visit my mom, and ended up on I84, and headed across the Tappanzee bridge, went thru Washington Cross, popped thru Philly and ended up in Maryland. It’s a longer drive, but the scenery and avoiding the George Washington Bridge made it worth it. I’d also look into an EZ Pass for tolls on the highway. It’ll save you a little money in tolls.
