That’s super fair. They seem to be the only option for first gens rather than a lunchbox locker. I obviously don’t need one now but we’ll see how I do in Alberta and if I end up wheeling enough for one to be worth it. Should be finally getting my rear actuator installed in the next few days.

 

A rear locker on its own will help significantly.
Probably the best tool to invest in is a winch and the recovery gear. Although the locker has helped in many places, the winch has been the ultimate saviour. Swisha loop my lockers buried me further so had to winch, rays place in the snow, winch saved me.

if anything. Winch! Winch extensions as well especially if you are solo.

 

Yep! Ordering a shittybilt 9.5 or 10k within the next few weeks. Probably just gonna get the steel cable and roller fairlead setup for what it’s worth and the amount it gets used, then upgrade as things evolve.
Extension is a good idea, didn’t think about that.

 

I have been running steel for a while and went with it for the exact reasons you said. Plus the overall maintence and wear and tear is much less then synthetic.

Just double check the part numbers of the drums on the synthetic shittybilt and stee shittybilt. If the part numbers are the same you are good.

when synthetic first came out, the lines would melt on some winches since the winch would use the steel cable to cool the drum (heatsink). If the part numbers are the same you know the drum can handle synthetic. For my winch, I was planing to go to synthetic (trucks not a dd so don’t have to worry about the line getting worn prematurely from road grime) but I would have to change drums.

I got the xrc (ill have to double check) 9.5k shitty built and its been good for the rare occasion ive used it. Couple guys at winch fest were surprised how fast it was. Though the freespool pul is kinda heavy.

also on the front locker if you plan on regearing at some point the pinion size may be different from stock to 4.88. Idk about the 1st gen but it is for 2nd’s

 

Yeah I’m not too versed in gearing, I’ll have to figure that out when I get bigger meat. Or just going to rock the stock gears and 35s

So, as many of you are probably aware my TuRD Gen is under the frame recall in addition to the CKP recall. Was originally scheduled to go in for treatment on Mar 31 but due to the 'rona that got punted. Got a call today from the dealer and they are rescheduling...for this week if I was available. Mentioned that because it's a multi day mitigation for safety issue, a rental is mandated...up to 5 days. Gave me an option for RAV4 or Tundra...so, from Thursday til next Tuesday this guy will be rolling in a 2020 Tundy. Now, there not gonna be a Ti shift knob hooked up to a 6MT tranny so I'll be slumming it for a bit but should be a nice change for that time.

If any of you fvcks were NOT aware...pay more fvcking attention. I've been mayor here before.


Now, I'm gonna go prepare for 4:20 4/20/2020

The Bamtam controls all the lights either by buttons/ button pad (that I have not mounted yet) or by bluetooth on your phone (that my lazy ass is using for now)
