    So I need to take the 2nd part of the LTC, I dont have my handgun cuz its in another state. Do instructors provide one when taking the training course?

    Bring whatever you have as long as it's bigger than a .380, if you have a pistol. Don't worry about holsters or a bunch of magazines, either.

    Also, purchase 50 rounds of ammo before the class to avoid paying the high prices for the range ammo. I recommend Academy for ammo on short notice.

    We had 2 people show up with no ammo and the instructor clearly said he does not provide or have ammo on hand.

    One guy was lucky and I sold him a box of 45 I had in my range bag. Other guy had a .40 and was SOL.

    If you have to, buy a cheap little .22, you can use that for LTC classes nowadays. But most places rent for their class.

    @tony2018 if you're in Austin check out Central TX Gunworks. Ask for Mike and take his class. He will rent you a 9mm if you can't get ahold of anything by then. Ammo will be provided for extra charge.

    Guns are dangerous weapons of destruction. You all are contributing to the death of innocent people and I'm totally just kidding I love guns.

    Actually just bit the bullet on a Ruger Mini-14 .223/5.56 cal to add to my modest arsenal.

    This marks the first time buying a gun I've never shot, just researched. Anyone have any experience with the post-2005 Mini-14's?

    It was common sense before I took the LTC class and everything afterwards confirmed it but also told me a bit more. Good tidbits.
