Started the rebuild on my rear bypasses yesterday. The passenger side shaft has some large pits, which is probably what caused it to leak. Drivers side would have been fine to use, but I decided to replace them both. The replacement shafts should be here tomorrow.

Oooof that sucks. At least you're able to DIY.

I saw a video awhile back about being able to polish out the imperfections, I don't know if it's true but those also look way too deep for that.
Edit: just saw you're in maple valley nice area

I have been told the same thing. As long as it isn't all the way through the chrome. This is from more than three years of getting sand blasted in the desert. Shouldn't have this issue now that I'm in the PNW. Or at least not as bad.

Would be awesome if you could post up some pictures with a step by step....and maybe how easy/hard it was.

Sure. I will make sure to get some good pics when I reassemble everything. Just waiting on the new shafts and the nitrogen regulator to get here. Hoping to get everything rapped up this weekend.

Just put mine on this weekend and noticed it is a bit stiffer coming from my icons. upload_2020-4-19_23-36-45.jpg
The reservoir is too close to the UCA though. I think the hose is too short. I’m gonna call tomorrow.

Here’s mine. I did them yesterday. I had the same issue. I’m gonna call tomorrow. Some dude on another thread said the hose was short.

I have a 2.5 gen and they were fairly short as well. That mount definitely looks too close to the uca

the coils should soften up in 1k-2k miles.

They built the shocks with the hoses too short. I was one of three bad builds. Luckily I was alerted here in Tacoma world! They’re building me new ones!

Question for the valving experts in here. I ran a very long trail yesterday that had some pretty gnarly washboard and no matter how firm or soft I cranked my coilovers it chattered my teeth and bounced me pretty good. Would you guys recommend a softer valving or what? I’m am also going from 14” 700# coils to 14” 650# next rebuild and I would prefer a little softer valving since I have the clickers to crank it up.

What is the best route valving-wise to make the trail riding a bit more enjoyable at 15-45mph?

That’s it? Valving softened is not needed at all?

The valving could provably take some tweaks to help out but really going down to 15-20 psi will be the biggest change in the specific rough road you are looking to improve.

That’s awesome. I actually chuckled when I saw the wood about to fly out of the bed. This is good info for sure. The washboard I was experiencing is that smaller stuff that can rattle your brain and cause you to spin out easy

Does the same principal still apply for the smaller washboard?

Isn't the only thing but process of elimination and it's way easier to try that and test it before you go getting your shocks revalved

Yeah the rear bucks hard because I'm in my bumps almost at ride height. I need new leafs that can hold up to all the extra weight I have added in the back over the years.

@TMFF is right. Like it or not, performance suspension for our trucks still has to maintain some stiffness for on-road control. Enthusiasts and manufacturers put their best foot forward to provide us with better performance off road, but there is only so much you can do between valving/spring rate before you sacrifice on-road characteristics. Going down to 650s will help you have a softer feel and the shock will be able to do it’s job for on road handling. If you’re serious about valving, I’d talk to accutune or any other tuning services you know. Maybe they could make some minor tweaks.
