Funny enough, my friend is waiting for a hernia operation as well. Mind blowing that he can't get in for surgery.

Just some observations. You don't have to concur. But you can not refute the evidence. The Jones reference might be a tad over the top though. I should note, I've never watched, or listened to that guy. I've heard of him, of course.

This is something I’ve been meaning to look up.
My diaphramatic hernia surgery last summer was called elective by my insurance provider.

However, 3 doctors (the surgeon doing the work, my reg dr, and a my pulmonologist) concurred that shit needed to get fixed. They all said you can leave it but it’ll cause problems down the road and whatever you do don’t run, jog, fall down or pick up anything heavy.

They also said you have a fist size portion of your liver protruding through the hernia causing your lung to partially collapse. It’s really not good for your lung or your liver.

Doesn’t sound all that elective to me.

Edit: just looked it up. Elective just means it’s scheduled in advance vs emergency...like have surgery immediately or die.

Not elective in my book, either. Holy smokes.

    I added an edit.
I looked up elective. Just means it’s been scheduled in advance vs needing surgery immediately or the patient runs a good chance of dying.

In my case I waited a month for surgery after it was decided to do it. This was about 14 months after the injury.
That’s just the normal wait time for the cardio Thorasic surgery wing at Stanford. I could have waited longer had I chose to but I wanted to get it over with so I could get back to mountain biking and scuba diving.
But in my case I had no pain or discomfort. Your friend who’s been waiting and many others might be in pain and that sucks a lot.

Understood. Good clarification. I was not aware of that, either.

Yeah, I’ve been curious about that for a while.
Elective sounds like optional. Like plastic surgery.
I had a friend with Kaiser. He waited 6 months for an ACL repair. The whole time he was on crutches. To me that’s not acceptable.
My 1 month was long. I just wanted to get it over with.

Did an 18-mile hike Sunday, from my doorstep to the local dam, and back. This is what this ridiculousness has come to.

I thought I had been banned for 24 hours once, way back. Could be wrong. Maybe the Mods are using the Facebook model of Banning. If so, I'm in deep shit. I've been banned by Farcebook 13 times.
