I have done it on motorcycles and back in the day on my Honda. (Shhhh. Don't tell anyone) lol!
It helps a lot with the heat. One thing that can happen is to much heat and the header can break down. The metal, welds, rust. It can help with flow by keeping the gasses hotter. But that starts to get into thermal dynamics. To borrow a line from @12TRDTacoma "that's above my pay grade"

I have always opposed it after someone who I know who does a lot of exhaust work made a mention to me when I asked about it, that while it does work great it also traps in moisture between itself and the header steel itself, accelerating rust and shortening the lifespan of the header itself for that very reason. It makes a lot of sense too.

I'm really against unnecessary exhaust work when it comes to that sort of stuff, so why make life harder on yourself when you can just avoid it all together and avoid early self induced repair work.

Make sure you revert it back to stock tune. I did not and now I’m stuck with it. Also handheld was only 2nd gen.

I found out that I am unable to delete stored data from the device anymore. My Vin is locked into the handheld. 8 have the stock tune in it now.

    Again, I'm not a pro.
Torspd said "if stainless headers, do it." or something to that effect.

-- The storage of moisture between the headers and the wrap isn't normally an issue for most people that daily drive their vehicles. Most people considering it, already are going aftermarket and most of the aftermarket is SS> Its easier to weld up something than it is to cast something. If anyone was going to wrap a stock or non stainless header, chances are they would be removing it and could use some header paint on it first/ ceramic coat/ etc. to negate that risk of rust or moisture. On the other hand, Stock tacoma headers- I ran wrap on mine for 3+ years before I got SSELLT Headers. (Stainless Steel Equal Length Long Tube). Mine showed no abnormal wear. Your Mileage may Vary though.

headers get up to temp and cook off any moisture.

Could be an issue. Thats what Matt from OV told me when I asked him how I could sell it. Did not cross my mind since @JustDSM could set it up without needing to do so. Also it seems that OV tune sold all the basic tuning software to another company and no only focuses on a custom tuning software so support may be limited now. Really annoying that I am stuck with it. I could send it back with some hope that company is built it could reset it but would prob cost almost just as much to buy one if they were available.

I have had an email into them for a month or more now with no reply. I have given up on their company and will go another route.

I'm seeing that the plastic SC coolant resi insulates the heat rather well and is in a cooler part of the bay. Now if the same pic were to be taken with an aluminum resi... I do wonder if the resi would become a heat sink in itself to a degree. I think it would have to.

I'm done. I have had mine since Nov of 2018 when they first sold them. It took just shy of a year before I was able to tune my truck with it.

Plastic is obviously an insulator and aluminum is a conductor, so the aluminum canister would conduct heat from the engine bay whereas the plastic one would insulate against it. The question would be does the increased capacity of the aluminum canister offset the heat conduction tax? Or what if one was to daisy-chain two plastic canisters?

My thinking is if the resi is giving off heat, it is itself taking heat out of the cooling system making the coolant cooler.

I cant recall the other brand folks have but do they give any reason why they made theirs out of Aluminum? Also with folks adding the CSF radiator and bringing temps down your thinking was how I was looking at this as well.

Figs is the other brand/name brand. They don't go over why they chose aluminum that I've seen

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Aluminum is a conductor. However, it dissipates heat very quickly in comparison to steel and does not heat soak. I think it is splitting hairs on the material based upon its position in the engine bay as well as you would have to compare the delta of coolant temp vs ambient external temp as to which way the heat transfer would be occurring.

Conductors absorb heat to equalize it between environments, that is it will transfer heat from whatever is hot to whatever is cold. If it is 130 degrees in the engine bay and the coolant is 100 degrees, it will input heat into the coolant. If the coolant is hotter than the engine bay, it will radiate heat out of the coolant into the engine bay. But it isn't apples to apples either due to the increased capacity. A coolant temp test would be the easiest way to tell the performance delta.
