I am currently running a full size 285/70/17 tire under my bed as a spare. I have done the bracket relocation mod, and it is a pretty tight fit. However, I am considering going to 285/75/17 in the future. Would it be possible to fit it under the bed or will I need to look for another option?

Too tall and wont fit imho, if you already have a tight fit why would you think a taller tirer would fit?

I’ve done the relocation and fit a 285/70r17 with at least another inch all around extra. I’ve also chopped my exhaust at the axle however.

    I fit a 33.3" 255/85/16
Had to bend the tabs and move the mounting bracket closer to the rear. No exhaust chop needed

I *think* it will fit. I was just under there this weekend moving my spare tire hoist aft. I measured the distance between the shackle frame brackets at 34", which should be above the widest section of the tire. I've got a chopped exhaust so I went ahead and cut off the hanger for the exhaust. I also measured the distance between the hitch and the rear diff as about 35". I know people are able to run 295/75/16's under there, which measures about 33.3", so I'm thinking the 285/75/17's will work too. Unfortunately I'm still a month or so out from being to evaluate it in person. I also figure worst case is keep it under inflated and add air if I need to use it.

A 285/75/17 measures 33.8" so this sounds promising.

Agreed. If I had access to one I'd throw it up there in a heartbeat to find out for sure. I'm hoping someone knows for sure because it's my current spare strategy and I really want to run that tire size.

Thank yall for the responses, I'm also a couple of months out from new tires but I feel like it'll fit with an exhaust chop.

Is it really worth it? If it's just the spare and you're not like in a Baja race, I don't think you'd ever be able to tell the difference from a 285/70 & 285/75 if you ever do have to use the spare.

If you're that bored, go for it! Anything will fit with enough lube.

It's an inch difference in diameter which is definitely enough for your drive train to have a problem with in 4wd.

An inch in diameter is only 1/2" difference in ride height. A spare tire's responsibility is to get you home when you need it. Not to ride on it forever. It most certainly would not cause any problems in getting you home. If it does, you already had problems.

I totally hear you, but it's not the ride height that's the concern. The issue is using 4wd with different size tires. One wheel is trying to spin faster than the others, and in 4wd they are mechanically connected to each other which. That's hard on the diffs and transfer case. It's not worth the risk for me.

Wouldn't this be true only if you have your diffs locked? Otherwise your differentials are open and each side can spin at different rates? This always happens when your cornering as your inside wheel won’t be spinning as fast as your outer wheel. Only when you have your diffs locked will they be forced to spin at the same rate.

For sure it's worst when diffs are locked. The transfer case is another story. For me it's not worth risking causing additional damage or not having the ability to run my truck in the 4x4 configuration I need to by not having a full size spare.
