NBC News Reports 50cal Machine Guns Sold Over the Counter..Really?

NEWTOWN, Conn --(Ammoland.com)- NSSF President and CEO Steve Sanetti sent a letter to Steve Capus, president of NBC Nightly News, concerning a report by Richard Engle.
Iin which the senior correspondent alleges “most of the cartel-related killings in Mexico are carried out with assault rifles and .50 caliber machine guns bought over the counter in the United States.”
Sanetti noted that while this piece was particularly troubling, it is one of many that include erroneous information concerning cartel-related violence.

I saw one for sale this weekend at a gun show, the caliber is not against the law, can be bought almost any major supplier. The gun, a Barrett can be had in single shot or semi-auto, and yes you can buy a full auto or a silencer for most any gun, just fill out a BATF form wait a couple of months (in depth background check) and a $200.00 tax stamp and your all set, providing you don't have anything on your record.

 

yup. Were full auto and suppressed compliant here in SC with a tax stamp. Gotta love it.
Everybody and there brother makes a bolt action and semi auto bmg. Havn't seen anything in full auto here though.
That .460 is a nasty round as well.

 

I know all about tax stamps. The point is that you can not go to a gun store anywhere in the U.S. and buy a machinegun over the counter.

Any full auto a civilian can purchase in the US had to be made and registered prior to 1986. The law of supply and demand have made full autos stupid expensive!!!!!!!!!

The last MP5 I saw was 20,000. I'm sure the drug cartels are not using $20,000 guns to do their killing. Not when they can get full auto AK's out of central america for a couple of hundred dollars.
