Finally got 2 more spindle nut kits in the mail.

    IMG_20200420_194936.jpg

The other drive slug was chewed up by the broken shaft. Even though it was superficial damage I switched to the spare I've been carrying.

All together with fresh brake pads

Pickle Rick is fucking great. The purge episode was on last night and the scenes in that one is pretty damn good too.

I have been hung up on a lot different thoughts lately.

I've been pretty pissed and discouraged after I blew up that RCV, elocker motor, and another power steering pump but that hasn't been the only thing. Before that it was the rear driveshaft coming apart, rear axles seals, wheel bearings, front CV, another PS pump, front CV seals, exhaust... :bananadead:

It's not so much the money, it's just the frustrating feeling of investing so much time in a circle.

Do I keep fixing it and doing """"the last repair for a while"""" and wheel it again to break something else again?

Do I drop $1100 on those rear RCVs? Then worry about breaking my R&P and front CVs again?

Do I drop $9k on the SAS parts and "be done" for a while?

Do I sell the truck and buy a Jeep or Tacoma already on tons for the $9k I'd spend on this one?

Go back down to 31s and 33s to slow the rate of breaking shit?

Do I take a break from wheeling for a while?

Do I go get the Jeep out of storage and chase my tail again with all of these issues on a vehicle that's been sitting 8 years?

After a lot of nudging I'm gonna take it wheeling again but that doubt is always gonna be in the back of my mind

So is that splined setup better or worse than the more common oe setup where the axle bolts to the hub

The full float set makes it easy to do wheel bearings. No press or special tool needed. Also, if I break a shaft, the wheel bearings are still supported since they're independent of the axle shaft.

It's also supposed to be stronger than stock.

that’s kinda the fucked part. You are forever chasing your tail, go bigger, wheel harder shit, break more shit. Remember when trails used to be hard cause you are on 32’s and you didn’t break stuff all the time? Pepridge farm remembers.

if you sas you will be wheeling even harder stuff. And of course possibly breaking more shit. It’s all a rabbit hole man. I know the burnt out feeling though, all too well.

I'm pretty sure all of us who beat on our rigs feel this way. The circle will never end as long as you keep doing what you are doing. I personally would rather break axles since they're easy to replace. Oem junkyard CV's are cheap.

I think the hardest part is finding the balance between frustration and joy you get from the rig. Maybe mix in some easier but more scenic trips? Typically if I just came back from fixing a catastrophic failure I take it easier for a little so I can still enjoy the rig and not be down for a while. I also feel we are hyper aware of our rigs. Back when I first started wheeling I didn't care about a leaky CV seal or a torn tie rod boot. Of course that adds to more potential failures later but ignorance is bliss. :p
