    Hello all,
Been lurking for quite some time taking advantage of all the useful info in the forums....thanks to the mods and anybody else that puts in work to maintain this site, seriously....thank you.
So...confession. I have a tundra, not a tacoma....however my truck has the 4.0l 1gfre motor and figured you all would be who to ask. So here goes:
280k and finally got the misfire #6 code. Only 100 miles later exhaust into coolant, tries to overheat, etc. Head gaskets. Tore it down, sent heads to machine shop, put it all back together and no oil pressure....discovered the o-ring had fallen off the bottom of timing cover while monkeying with oil pump gear aligning it. Tear it back down, make damn sure o ring stays put, back together....oil pressure is good, idling proper.....now theres an alarming amount of sound coming from either timing chain or valve train. Its loud, almost like the top end isnt being oiled. Any ideas?

It was remiss of me not to introduce myself I suppose....
Names Chris, I install plumbing in new houses and my beloved Tundra has been helping me do that for a decade. I'm northeast of Atlanta, GA by 45 miles or so in Winder. I trained in Rome, GA to acquire my skydiving license and have jumped all over the southeast. Did a 4 year stint in Rock Hill, SC and worked in Charlotte, NC doing wildlife management....nice place but home is home and couldn't get Georgia off my mind.

is the noise more towards the front or back of the engines? rattling like hell can be a few things, but the 4.0 doesnt have lifters to worry about. it may be chain slap (tensioner issue?) or the cam gear on the intake cam may not be getting full oil pressure, (Oil control valve failure or a clogged VVTI screen)

a video would help alot if possible.

No problem.... I figured you might be best suited to help and OP doesn't seem to be too much of a rookie wrench.

if you have access to a scan tool another thing you can try is try and command the Cam gears to actuate.. when you go full advanced the truck should idle poorly or just flat out die.. that would mean you have proper oiling to the cam gear

Its definitely coming from the front. I didn't replace any of the timing guides or chains because it wasn't making noise before the head job. Didn't see anything in the service manual about installing those oil control valves improperly.
I'll shoot a video in the morning and upload it.

No scan tool, but I can test functionality of the valves with battery voltage....that bit was in the manual.

improperly i doubt, were your new ones OEM toyota or aftermarket? if aftermarket i would check resistance and make sure it works the way the FSM says to inspect it (if you need the inspection instructions i'll dig em up at work tomorrow)
