I’d say the thieves that are targeting cars to that degree (flatbed trucks) aren’t looking for current model midsize Toyota trucks and they can’t easily, quietly or quickly load a vehicle on a flatbed, even with keys. Dragging a vehicle also doesn’t fit those criteria, so while possible I’d say that is highly unlikely.

My goal is to make it hard to steal, nothing will make it impossible. Most thefts are opportunity crimes, even if they want a Tacoma, yours being something they can’t start like they usually can means they’ll leave yours and find another that isn’t so equipped.

    YMMV.

I have an aftermarket alarm with a kill switch so even if you break the window, the truck just cranks because the fuel injectors are off unless you disarm it and use the immobilizer key to start. I also have a visible front and rear cameras with blinking lights.

It’s a $20 part that your paying some one a lot of money to install. You only hook up 3 wires. A ground and 2 that interface into a circuit that won’t allow the vehicle to start. Super easy to bypass

I'm wondering who would be more inconvenienced by this setup?
A potential thief or the person that drives it every day.

I heard that they can clone it, basically stealing the transponder encryption while the key fob is on you or while activating it...

Garage. It's easier to secure a truck if it can't be seen from the street.

A friend's shitbox car got stolen out of his drive by a custom tow truck. Somebody in the area stole a truck from a shady repo company, one of those duallys with the push button "hidden tow bar". Then they went wild and used it to pull a few more cars and trucks over the next month or so, all low value targets that would make a quick buck further south. The neighbors surveillance cam caught it, it took less than 30 seconds to put it on a dolly and drive off. That was the biggest example of overkill I've seen, all to score a 15 year old cavalier.

If a tow truck gets involved, things can disappear crazy fast.

No doubt. But - exceedingly rare circumstance. You could steal jewelry from a store through an elaborate tunnel that goes undetected, or you can walk in and smash the glass and grab whatever you can get a finger on.

No point to reinforce the floor and leave the front door open, when securing the front door is 99.99% of the solution.

Your best bet is probably a kill switch. There's also the option of a fuel line shut off but do you feel like going under your truck all the time to use it? Personally, I just make sure I have good insurance, pay the minor additional amount for aftermarket accessories and keep all my receipts for said accessories.
