2nd Gen lift questions...

I have a 2005 Tacoma Prerunner. I want to lift it a little more but not sure what the best option would be. It already has a lift on it with bilstein shocks. Therefor I'm not sure how to tell exactly how much lift it actually has. Does anyone know about how much it is lifted? Should I replace the shocks or should i buy the spacers that go over the coils or should I just do a body lift. Will there be alot involved in the body lift? shifter, cables etc?? I want to put some bigger tires on and put a set of 18 " wheels on it. I want either 265s or 285s.

Also when wheels are replaced i will be selling the 16" atx artillery wheels.

 

You need to figure out which size tires you want first. 285's need 3" lift and 265's need no lift.

Look at the shocks you have now and look under the spring collar or perch. look to see how many grooves are showing. .85, 1.75, 2.5 are the lift measurement

 

i would rather have the 285s. Are you saying that i will need a total of 3" lift or and additional 3"?

 

You need a total of 3" lift and wheels with 4.5 backspacing as well as trimming of the fender well with a great possiblity of cab mount chop!

they are the silver and they are on the 3rd notch from the bottom.

 

so i evidently only have a 1.75" lift?? i was thinking i had more than that haha thanks for the help. so what would be the best tires size to "fill out" the wheel wells with out chopping the cab mount? I want some "aggressive looking tires" maybe some tera grapplers, toyo open country m/t, BF Goodrich Mud Terrains T/A, etc....

 

Sounds like 265 would work best.

 

He could simply take apart the assembly, move to the 2.5" lift groove, assemble then purchase a small top plate spacer for 1/2" of lift to get him to 3" really easily! With going to 3" you will need to UCA's in order to get alignment into spec.

Then he is wanting new wheels so do your shopping and get 4.5 bs and you will be fine!

Agressive looking tires are Nittos and BFG even my Cooper ST look sick! Ya 265 will look fine with 1.75" without any trimming issues.

 

Oliver's right, if you want run 285's, just set your bilsteins to 2.5" instead of 1.75". You could run 285/65/18's then.


If you don't want to do any trimming to avoid rubbing, keep them at 1.75" and go with 265/65/18's. That what I have below, it fills up the wheel wells.

 

i feel like a real idiot for not knowing what size tires i had on my truck... lol thats embarassing... but havent had to deal with them and they come on the truck when i bought it. but back to the point it actually has 265s on it now so im going to raise it up to 2.5" get the correct wheels and get 285s. it will be awhile before i get the money but i will post pics as soon as it is done.

on emore question... do the back shocks (silver bilstein) have adjustments like the front? i looked at them and couldnt see if they do. What are my options for raising the back if there are no adjustment?? spacer on top of shock?

Thanks. And to answer your question about the back, the rear bilsteins are not adjustable. You will need an add a leaf (aal) to raise the back. They're under $100.

 

Come to think of it, you might already have an AAL. The rear doesn't look to be stock height.
