When to replace serpentine belt?

When is a good time to replace this belt. My 2013 has 106,000. Bought my 2013 a few months ago and no records of this being changed. From what can be viewed it looks fine but can only view from up top. Should I replace it now and what kind of belt. I use Gates on my other cars.

 

When it shows signs of wear. I replaced mine at 150k, but it still looked ok. It's a cheap part, do what makes you feel comfortable.

 

Gates or OEM will both be just fine. At 106k I'd replace it to be safe. I would also replace it if it has any cracks in it. The rib side usually cracks when it gets old.

 

im at the same spot, based on some research here im going to get a Toyota OEM belt for it even tho they cost at least twice the amount theres definetly a difference in the quality of an OEM belt to a aftermarket

 

Replace it, takes 15 minutes at most. go with a Toyota OEM belt, and wrap the original one up and put it behind the seats as a spare.

Modern serp belts wont really show signs of cracking / wear untill its too late, the grooves end up wearing out which is hard to tell so at 100k, just replace it and keep it as a spare

 

So a Gates belt is not as good as a Toyota belt?

Im using a continental belt, so far so good lol

 

So Gates is fine to use for my Taco. They are half the dealer. I called the dealer and they said their belts are made different and better.

 

I just did mine two weeks ago. I have a 2013 with low miles. Belt started to squeak for some reason. I used the bates belt. Fit like a glove.

Hey TacomaMike what kind of belt did you use.

 

I have a new oem one sitting at home. 147k on the original belt. I feel stupid replacing it, but I have had some of the belt/pulley squeal in the past, so I just bought the idler pulleys to install with it and will knock this out during quarantine time.

 

I do mine every .......60.

didn't need it though... this is cheap preventative more than 'gotta change that thing'

 

my advice is to research serpentine belts in the 2nd GEN section and then make your own decision youll find pros and cons, in the end you will find that paying extra for OEM parts will be the best but not everyone can afford them

 

For real...I had a Gates on my 93' 4Runner with 100k+ on it. Good enough for me...

 

Dayco makes great belts to. I always stick to Gates, Dayco, or OEM for belts or pulleys

 

I replaced mine with an oem at 60,000. Probably didn't need to though, the one I took off looked like new. I might put that one back on at 120,000.

 

Gates is just fine, NAPA is also very good product.
