that poll is for people who had their transmission checked or refilled, not people who were having troubles. It doesn't say that

please go count the individual posts...

Totally agree with you on this the slush box trucks are dogs compared to the manual trucks. The 3.5 has plenty of power for the truck with a manual behind it. I own a manual and it is a totally different animal than the grocery getter trucks with the auto transmission. The manual trucks will rip when you want it, tow when you need it and get pretty good fuel mileage for a commute.

Everyone with a manual seems to need to justify their choice. Quite the inferiority complex. How do you know how a broken in auto drives!? Mine gets up and goes now after 3000 miles. Bet I could hang with you... It wasn't like that at all the first thou.

For the record, I love the auto as well. If they'd had the color I wanted sitting on the lot, I would've snapped it up.

Since I had to order and wait, I opted for the manual. Always had standards in my Toyota trucks and liked them. I also have 2 daughters starting to drive and think it's important that they can drive a stick.

Well it couldn't it be possible that I have driven both trucks? How about possibly having a neighbor that has a TRD OR auto trans in the MGM flavor.
Oh and by the way what is this complex you speak of? Is it not possible that the 4.30:1 ratio in the manual better suits my needs as compared to the 3:91:1 ratio in the auto? Perhaps the fact that all of my vehicles are manual by my own choice and will continue to be? After they stop offering them for sale I can and will rebuild when needed and continue to drive a manual.
I do not have to justify my decisions to you or any one else! I did my research, made my decision, placed my order and waited for my truck to get here. This is the exact same way I have done with every new vehicle I have ever purchased. I do not follow the herd if you ever met me you would find that quite clear. If you are happy with driving a slush box drive it, as for me I will drive a manual!

    Hahaha. Well said Redbeard.

I thought the same thing when I read the comment about "inferiority complex." I was pretty thoughtful about ALL of the options, as I was ordering a truck I would have to wait several months to drive. It's my truck. I don't have to justify anything. Oh, and it's bad ass.

It's all good man.. Just giving you some shit. Manuals are fun as hell to drive! It just doesn't make sense anymore for me to drive one in the city. I'm really impressed with how much the auto has improved though... It's like an entirely different vehicle from when I drove it off the lot

Well. I can revive this thread because I have 2month old 2018 SR5 with only 3500 miles on it and it just crapped out on me. Had to tow it to the dealership and they told me "complete engine failure" and have to investigate why that happened... Especially on such a brand new truck.

I've never had an issue with any Tacoma I've ever had, and I've had just about every generation thus far. I guess I'm just lucky with this new gen.

I'll keep everyone posted on causes and findings.
