For those who live in Colorado, did you (or do you think its a good idea) to change the thermastat out to a 160? I run at ~185 cruising, and when pulling up a long hill will go up to ~200-205. During the summers, running ac and boost etc Ill get to 200 pretty easily. But im curious about our winter months, where I dont have a problem of staying near 185. Thoughts?

so im about to install a new green belt.
i took mine off, unsuccessfuly attempted a 69" rpm, then reinstalled my old belt.
my concern is i didnt mark the direction of the belt and may have reversed it. does the stress of the belt used both ways increase the chance of failure??
    or not enough to care?

if i did mine again i wouldnt buy the urd kit. it doesnt leak but it puts the housing even closer to the s/c belt. maybe someone with the motorad could post a pic of theirs.

+1. IMO, 160 is too cool for extended/winter use. IIRC, there's been some discussion of temps that low requiring tune adjustment to ensure normal (closed loop) operation.

FWIW, I'm still running a stock thermostat, with no problems. IF I upgrade, it will be to nothing cooler than 170.

The 160° setups are more problems than anything else.

    Stock or 170°.

The 160 moshimoto was too cold even for my extremely built engine (cooler months in the northeast.) Switched back to a 160 motorad with urd adapter.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Altitude plays a role, can’t remember Denver but Colorado Springs was at roughly 5600 ft above sea level where water boils at 203 vice 218-220. So with elevation your coolant will have a lower boiling point. A cooler thermostat could compensate for this factor, but so could increasing the pressure of the cooling system. Here is some explanation behind the science.

didnt consider the elevation to boiling rate. good call!

I haven't had an issue with the 160 yet either... Sort of tentatively tracking it though as it's only been in for the last 3 months or so. Maybe more maybe less.

believe @Torspd quoted 170* wasnt worth the effort as it changes so little. the one instance i stay conservative on mods.

Pretty much. A few others validated that. This is why they went to the Motorad, which fit in the URD adapter. It keeps the temps where the 170° should, without reducing them as much as the Mishimoto 160°. Which pretty much shouldn't be used unless you are racing or sleeved.
