Then explain the TRD Aftermarket CAI system. Maybe TRD Aftermarket Engineers?

 

That is the TRD Aftermarket Intake Flow Accelerator, not stock OEM inlet.

 

The best Aftermarket CAI would be, in no specific order, TRD, S&B, AFE, Injen. Some louder, some bigger, some more expensive.

Look for a contained air box system. K&N is not.

 

For maximum vroom vroom ide go with afe or volant

 

Like others have stated, they are good mostly for noise. Our trucks come with CAI. Although they do improve throttle response a bit.

I did install intake accelerator tube and the trd air filter, noticed a bit better throttle response, which is exactly what i wanted. Also, it seems to be a hair louder at WOT. Im happy with my set up so far.

 

Thats true but, if someone doesnt care about money and want a bit better noise with better throttle response, its worth it to them.

I had one on my ranger and i loved it, the sound and throttle response was night and day. It did add a bit of power since i didnt have to downshift as much on same hills. It was very expensive though and no way ill be spending this much dough on air intake again.

 

After the first gen, Toyota NA hired on an entirely new marketing and research/development team for all things TRD in the US

First, calling them a "cold air intake" is laughably misleading.

The only cold air intakes are the ones with intercoolers. A snorkel takes in colder air than a filter inside the engine bay. If anything, you're letting in hotter air than just sucking air form the fenderwell with the stock airbox.

When I bought my truck the filter was already installed by the PO. It functions perfectly fine, but if I were to do it myself, I'd just do a drop in OEM replacement K&N. K&Ns are great filters when they're oiled properly, which is why I use them on all my vehicles, including my dirtbike.

It's definitely louder than stock, so if you're looking for something that SOUNDS like it has more power, sure, get one.

But I'd skip the CAI crap, and just get the drop in filter.

 

Stay stock.

You didnt read the part where i felt more power on hills and my throttle response was way better? Ranger had a small airbox and the tube that was sucking from underneath the headlight was pretty small in diameter.

Not saying aftermarket CAI will add power to the taco since it uses air box from 5.7 tundra.

 

No I read it. Just commenting specifically about your comment about the "better noise".
