I did the daycare for a little while. Too expensive. And if your kid looks like they're about to sneeze, they call you to come pick them up.

Thank you both, I’d like to get one for behind the seat of my new reg cab. Try to put something useful behind the seat.

Fucking fuckety fuck fuck cock cocking fuck. School closed for the rest of the year. So now those of us with giblets in school that means another 2 months of homeschooling and seeing our kids all day every day. O joy...
And even better, day cares are closed until June 29th, which is awesome for those of us with giblets in daycare.

I saw this thing posted up:
It may take a village to raise a child, but it's going to take a vineyard to home school mine.

silver lining... saving $3k a month...

Not sure that’s worth the cost of sanity though.

our dilemma is we do qualify for the emergency childcare and our daycare is open for such. but we’ve managed for a month and don’t necessarily need to use it nor feel it’s worth the extra risk.

I want a little lake house in Maine some day and the girlfriend is on board. Though on two public school district salaries it'll take some time to get to that point.

only if your day care doesn’t have it in their contract and is still charging you. Not sure if that’s still a big thing but when this all started there were a few doing that.

I'd venture to think it's higher than the 25-33%, at least from a miscarriage standpoint. The majority of our friends have run into it, us included. If we weren't tracking, we wouldn't have really even known.

Having done daycare, I'm have a new respect for them (my Mom was stay-at-home, so I didn't go as a kid). They are great with both our kids and do a tremendous job teaching them everything. Bren could sign before she could talk so she had a way to communicate with us before the words hit. But, we're paying $577/week and we have cheap daycare.

My wife is scary fertile. Decide to have kid, four weeks later, kid. Definitely intense.

As far as the shutdown is concerned, my wife's a teacher and we've got two kids in daycare. It's going to be an adventure for us. Her school system is in a tougher area, so their distance learning was never truly established prior to the shutdown. She has 48 students and thusfar only 3 of them are logging into the programs with any regularity. Given the circumstances, the school isn't judging teachers by their logins which is good because most of the teachers would be screwed. She's doing what she can to put together lessons and whatnot for the students, but it's tough. I'm working from home and she's been a saint letting me basically seclude in my office to work without the kids. The tough thing for me is that I'm going to eventually run out of work that I can do from home, since I work in a lab setting. I'm going through a control system software upgrade right now, so I can do a lot from home, but even that will run out eventually. The lab is open, so I might just end up going back, but I feel bad leaving her with both kiddos and work. We're in the midst of potty training to boot.

The only good thing is that our daycare is down to 20% tuition, which is basically the minimum charge to keep the lights on and mortgage paid at her locations, which I cannot fault. We have friends who send their kids to centers and the centers are demanding 100% tuition paid, even though they have laid off their entire staff. The owner is viewing it as a cash grab and everything about it screams that it's wrong. I think they're going to ultimately pull their kid and risk losing their spot when they reopen. Some areas the wait lists are so long that it's not even possible to do that, because you'll run the risk of losing the spot. There's another friend who sends their kid to a home daycare and they're also charging 100%. My friend asked if they could work with them and the owner was like definitely not. I get that it's their income source too and definitely have more sympathy to those home daycares rather than the centers, but it just seems wrong to charge 100% for zero services rendered. I have to believe that overhead costs would be reduced regardless, but what do I know.

Between gas, daycare & before/ after care for my daughter we're saving a fuck ton too. But it's not worth our sanity. And the gym is our stress management, but it's fucking closed too.

we paid the first 2 weeks in early March for the kids not to be there then got the email saying they will hold our spot as long as we were current. I refuse to pay any provider for a service they’re not providing at this time.

I hear ya, I work overnight and wifey works during the day so we’re at our wits end with our 2&4 yo boys.

sounds like we should grab a few crowlers from start line and go fishing.

Fortunately our sons daycare isn't charging. They're a center( Next Generation), and I'm surprised they aren't charging but not complaining. His last place is still charging, which is straight short bus dumb. And my daughters before/ after care isn't charging either which is pretty money.

But again now we've officially got another 2 months with them 24/7. Gonna a go straight Shining up in here. Need to get out and go camping or something, bit I think NH and Maine are still shut down for the time being too.
