sport mode that shit man, ride 3rd gear. You aint sacrificing any MPG being in 3rd gear lol...hell you can do 4th gear at 60mph and still maintain like 20mpg. Use ur Current Fuel Eco bar it will help you alot.

That’s what mine does but with more of a hesitation in between the starter cranking. Very odd. Not a low battery or starter or solenoid issue. Something else.

I'd give anything to have my 2nd gen MT back instead of this stupid 3rd gen AT. I despise it.

Is it the transmission, or the gears? Seriously asking, because I think a re-gear is inevitable for me to be anywhere near "happy" with this truck. I'm just loath to dump more money into it.

What’s odd? Besides the fact he unlocks his door 3x, it starts just like it should with a 2+yr old battery. My stock battery sounded just like that on any tune.

I came from a 2011 TRD Sport and never had a single complaint.
But a regear would benefit the overdrive gears in such as city driving by raising RPM's so it isnt in such a low rpm.
I'm just going to go VfTuner route and not regear. I'm going to have it to where a minimum speed/rpm has to be met before it upshifts.
For example: 3-4th gear upshift. It will have to be minimum ~2000 +/- 100 Rpm to upshift.

The big issue is the gears in the diff combined with the power band of the 3.5

having put significant miles on both, the gearing in the MT makes this a totally different truck directly from toyota. I can cruise in 6th gear all day if I want to. If I went back to an auto, it would go from the dealer straight to a shop for 4.88s (since I’d be stock tire size or close). That puts each gear close to the MT drive ratios

that being said, there’s definitely issues with the engine tune from Toyota. With 2.0, mat has that pretty much fully sorted out for the MT. Way better power delivery from idle to 3500 rpm.

I had a 2005 with the 4.0 - with the AT I constantly missed the drivetrain from the second gen. I don’t any longer miss it - performance is comparable or better and I’m getting better fuel economy.

Both really. the gear spacing is too wide IMO; and it doesn’t help that Toyota’s shift mapping is meant for maximum mpg’s so it tries to get into 6th gear as quickly as possible. It’s a shitty combo, for sure.

somewhat odd comment. easy peasy, "give anything" = sell your 3rd, re-buy a 2nd?

Mine does that all the time .. Heck I’m on my 3rd Toyota battery but since they keep replacing them for free I’m gonna keep em a coming !! Weekend before last we had a cold snap around freezing and she struggled to start . Drove to get gas and had to get jumped. Ever since it’s warmed up she’s a starting

well he did say "give anything"
everyone has their price, and one certainly can be made available on those terms

I for one, don't miss my 2008 MT.
Did my OEM 2016 04B00 suck, damn straight it did, but OVTuned made it much better

As a backup plan, there's a low mileage 2015 TRD Sport a few states away that I'm eyeballing.

mine has never done it prior to flashing this new 2.0 tune. The slight hesitation just before it fires up has never been there before. I had probably 15k miles on 1.05 and never had that problem.

I'm unemployed and flat-ass broke with a house payment, truck payment, and my 2nd gen MT is long gone thanks to Copart. I inquired about trading in and was told that I'd have to go down a trim package and lose the locking rear diff and suspension, and I'd end up being over 10k further in debt to get a comparable truck to what I'm missing. Plus, you know of anywhere that sells new 2nd gen MTs? I have no desire to buy something used that's had god knows what done to it. I'm stuck with this POS, and I've been in a few accidents to boot, so that affects the value.
Edit: And I suppose I should've been more specific- I'd give anything to have MY 2nd gen MT back, not necessarily *any* 2nd gen MT
