For those of you that ride at non bike parks, is it on the signs for bikers to yield to hikers?

Man...we were cruising down one of the best “downhill” trails at our state park a little bit ago, one of the only ones you can get some great speed on...

And this lady hiking UP the trail all but refused to step aside as we were bombing down and she was yelling “slow down slow down” at us. Pissed me off.

I know the signs say bikers yield but that makes no sense. They can sidestep real fast and be out of the way and we cannot stop on a dime or even turn out of the way. Certain trails should not be bikers yield to hikers.

Im pretty sure its proper trail etiquette for downhill riders/hikers to yeld to Uphill riders/hikers on trails that are bi-directional. It definitely stinks in that scenario though when its one of the only ones.

I agree on the riders because then a downhill rider is looking far out ahead and the uphill guy is usually watching his front tire. But hikers can so do so easily step to the side. Any time I hike I always yield to the bikes because I know they don’t want their momentum stalled

Dude can run all day. Also got to save a couple of guys a long hike back to the trailhead by having an extra master link.

    ...stuff
a lot of the best trails around me are bikes only and one way only. I can’t imagine there would be anywhere to get out of the way on the trail though, it would be a nasty collision if someone was dumb enough to walk or ride up it

I wish we had that but sadly we do not. It’s all both directions hikers and bikers. Sucks.

That's on you to slow down. Sometimes you gotta take one for the team to keep the peace out there

I get it, which is why I was polite when I went by her.....even if I cussed her after. I just think it's a stupid rule, and one reason I wish I had a local "bike park" instead of just a state park.

Yeah I agree it sucks. Kinda like stopping at a red light while on a bike - It sucks , but doing so sets a solid example for others.
My ride yesterday was littered with hikers , really kills the vibe

no doubt, and that's why I was polite and did slip off the trail some to avoid her....but telling me to slow down was the real annoying part lol. I'm just complaining though..

I just know myself, thinking logically, when I hike...I sidestep for bikes because it's really super easy and I am able to be hyper aware at the slow speed I'm going...not everyone thinks like me..thankfully

I've run into a whole pack of horses flying down Lower Black before. Which sucks because they want you slow all the way down, and it's a lot of work to earn that decent....

Well they were coming up Lower Black. I assume they continued onto Thrift Cove, so it's pretty easy for horses there.

Yeah, it’s the norm everywhere. You have to remember that we as mtb’ers are “new” to the trails. Most were built for hiking and tweaked for bikes. Hikers don’t have a lot of awareness, and we aren’t as loud as you’d think. Blind turns come up, bike coming at you at what seems like an unsafe speed, startles a Jane, yeah she’s gonna freak. Happens more times than I’d like.
They have the right of way, and we should be “in control at all times.” But reality is that most hikers are happy to sidestep, and a little curtesy goes a long way. I personally slow waaaay down, say “Thanks, have a great day” and move on. If it happens a lot I avoid that trail or time.
Hikers are also loud and avid voices for trails. We need to keep the peace and be good trails buddies. If we want one-way trails, we need to advocate. Joining a club, going to meetings, building your own trails, etc. helps.
Now horses... Fuck horses and horse people.:laser: :deadhorse:
