Right outer CV boot is gnarled and has spewed grease leading me to believe it has a tear somewhere. I have not yet located the tear. Doesn’t look like it was caused by an object or anything. Both collars are in good shape. Tried to pull it back out into shape but while it’s not caught or pinched, it doesn’t want to come back to shape. Not sure what happened. Having trouble finding a replacement other than OEM. Anyone experienced something like this before? Leads on aftermarket boot? Thanks in advance.

looks like something cause it to push out all the grease but didn't cause a tear. now the pressure is pushed out, the boot won't return to the regular shape because of the vacuum pressure. try getting something to allow air back in. see if that helps. if not, just order OEM. it's not that expensive. unless you can find a clip to reseal. just make sure to have someone experience to do the replacement. any error in the re install can cause vibration.

That's buggered. Just get a new one and have it replaced professionally. If grease is getting out, road debris got in. Needs to be cleaned and regreased. I say this having just had one of my inners spring a leak (never found the tear, but knew it was there)

Toyota axle, new HD CVs, HD inner boots, and OEM outter boots. No mess, warranty, and only a little over $200 bucks. Then keep your original axle, rebuild it and have trail spares. All a win win.

well f*$! me sideways. I just had to have the stealership do one of my inners as I'm 3000 miles away from home and didn't want to tear it apart on the side of the road. I could've gotten a set of these for the same price (almost) :frusty::bananadead::annoyed:

per the website, these stop at model year 2016. will these work for the 3rd gen 2016-2020? OP has a 17, those on this thread suggesting these, have the older gen trucks. inquiring minds. Ski

I don't see why they would not work (the powertrain components and wheel stance geometry didn't change in the Tacoma between 2016 and 2017, or at least I never heard of it changing)...

Call them and ask, maybe they simply haven't updated their website...

Its $251 plus a $95 core. You get the core back when you return your stock axle

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
YES. We had to replace one and used these and the extended amount of flex and durability is significant. As soon as we can afford it we will be replacing the other CV with theirs even though it's not broken. When we lift the truck it's nearly 2 full inches difference in droop on the two tires.

You sure the CV joint didn't break and that's what twisted the boot?

UPDATE: Dealership says it's covered under 5yr powertrain warranty. I asked if they could inspect for damage from running without grease. They agreed, and are now installing all new CV axle. First time I've ever had a factory warranty come through for me. Great luck.
