    Hello!
    I am having problems with my tranny that I thought you guys could help with!
    I have to take off from a light or stop sign at a crawl... If I don't, it feels like it's spinning the back tires... their not actually spinning. Slipping maybe. Only in 1st gear. 88k miles. Automatic transmission. Changed the carrier bearing, u joints, transmission fluid, all filters, plugs. No change. Tranny fluid was low and BLACK. Any help would be great!

    Yeah.
    How low was the tranny fluid? Does not sound good, possibly burned up torque converter? @gearcruncher is the resident tranny expert.

    Really low according to the mechanic. About 3 quarts low. Metal shavings on the magnets.

    ACTUAL metal shavings or just the standard gunk on them?

    These trannys are usually pretty strong but if you were that low of fluid for who knows how many miles you could have caused some deeper more permanent damage.

    Did you drain the transmission instead of the motor oil, then add in motor oil into your engine thereby doubling up? (i.e. HALP!!!)

    Simple answer, take it to a shop or find a used/reman transmission.

    This work was done by a mechanic, yes? If so, we can assume (or hope) the mechanic at least knew where to drain the fluid from and where to refill it.

    However, unless I missed something, we don't know if a flush was performed, as opposed to a regular drain-and-fill. Flushes are a service gold mine and are often upsold to the unsuspecting. If the fluid really was low and black and contained shavings, a flush might really mess things up by distributing all kinds of microscopic crap throughout the little orifices inside the valve body, where they will lodge permanently. I've seen it happen more than once. For that reason I would never flush a poorly maintained auto tranny (1), just do a drain-and-fill, then do it again in a couple weeks to remove the rest of the s__t that's still in there. So, ask the mechanic whether a flush was done. If the answer is yes, then your mystery may be solved.

    (1): Or ANY auto tranny for that matter, but that's probably a separate topic.

    There were 2 different transmissions in 2015 . One being a 4 speed and the other being a 5 speed .
    As mentioned above , Either way , it doesnt sound like there is much you can do to the transmission from the bottom of the pan now considering it was that low on fluid and full of metal .
    If the transmission was just serviced and its full of fluid but continues to slip in first gear , it has to come out for an internal inspection or replace it with a 2nd hand transmission . There are some good deals on the buy and sell page .

    Ok so... update. My truck went to the shop. Got a new torque converter, and a remanufactured tranny. It stopped shuddering for a week. Now its shuddering between 30-45 mph. Thankfully its warranted! Any ideas I can suggest to the transmission shop?
