It was single shear. I cut them off both sides and made them double shear.

They are in process of making some with a tapered pin that fits the lower spindle. The upper unfortunately uses a different taper

My rack skips teeth fairly often, I haven't broken a tie rod yet. But I had some play on my inners after running 35s for a year and my rack or pump had always leaked since I put the 35s on. Of course now that I put 37s on my control valve on the rack went out . Feels like I sometimes have power steering and sometimes don't. Throwing in a new to me rack tomorrow.

Rack slider is done... it also acts as a double shear for the rack so they won’t rip off anymore

Beefy. Does this bolt to the stock rack? Or get welded to it?

Looks like from the pictures that it bolts to the rack and the frame. Is this something that jd has a jig for and will be making more of?

Do you have to increase line pressure for this to work smooth?

The rack is now essentially twice as thick, the addition slides with the stock rack and helps keep it from deflecting by having its own second mount to the frame.

Is the add on powered in any way, or is it more like a steering rack gusset of sorts?

I can't leave anything well enough alone
looks like you had to notch out a fairly big section of the frame cross member. I'm sure your plans are to re-inforce/plate it, but makes it not so bolt in/weld.

Think of it as a gusset. If I’m understanding it correctly that is. First time I’ve seen something like this.

It looks to me like its a solid rail that runs just in front of the rack with a slider. instead of being just held in place with two rubber mount like the rack. It bolts to the top of the rack, the front crossmember and on the ends to the frame. So now the rack is using this slider to take the force off the rack. Like he said in the earlier post the rack tends to bend under heavy load. This just puts the load on the heavy bar and the rack just moves how it should. I think. Sorry if i spoke out of turn

You are correct, the slider takes the load off the stock rack to help eliminate deflection. The slide rack was built in such a way that bolts to the top of the stock rack and then has weld on tabs to the frame in a 90degree orientation which double shears the stock rack. Not only does the slider eliminate the deflection it also drastically strengthens the stock rack mounting so you can’t rip it off the frame or shear the stock mounts off the rack.

The slide rack has almost zero friction interference however Howe is porting a stock Toyota pump for increased line pressure. If it’s not enough custom brackets will be made so a TC pump can be bolted to the Toyota engine. In addition to the pump a much larger baffled, filtered PS resi will be added along with a big cooler. If that’s still not enough a ram can easily be added to the slider to assist the rack.

we cut a bunch out to make room for prototype fit... the final version won’t require as much of a hack

The best part is the new custom clevis is designed to accept a 3/4” Heim so you can now run real heimed tie rods, not the silly extensions that all the LT kits come with
